LIGHTHOUSE MINISTRY NEWS Book of the Week - A Map of Life (by Frank Sheed). TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ODINARY TIME St. Bart’s Religious Education (CCD) needs volunteer teachers: 4th grade on Sunday as well as 7th and 8th grades on Monday. We also need parishioners and parents willing to be regular CCD substitutes who step in to teach when the regular teacher needs to be off for a weekend. Here are the top 4 Reason given to NOT teach CCD: 4. I don’t know enough. What better way to learn! Lesson plans, training, and support are provided. None of us are expected to answer all the great questions our students come up with; we listen and learn together. 3. Someone else can do it (better than I can). All God wants is our best effort. CCD is a volunteer organization and we need a diversity of gifts. 2. It is a big time commitment. Yes. It works out, between lesson planning and teaching, to be about three hours a week for 24 weeks. Illness or family situations come up. When you need a weekend off, there are CCD substitute teachers who help to cover classes. 1. I’m not sure if God is calling me to this? I wish God would tweet or text. Instead, God’s call or inspiration to teach CCD is often a small voice that continues to whisper under the bluster of points 4, 3 and 2 above. If the idea of teaching lingers, if it in some way captures you mind or heart, call Cathy Mills at the CCD office 301.229.3431 or [email protected] to talk about possibilities. Sign-up for CCD Classes - Registration forms are in the back of Church. St. Bart’s offer’s CCD classes at two times: Sunday Morning: 8. 30-9.45 for Grade 1-8, as well as a 4-5 yr. old program, and Monday Evening: 6.00-7.15 for Grade 1-8. If your child is starting 1st grade in MCPS, or a private non -Catholic School, register now to begin the first of two years of preparation required to make 1st Communion in 2nd Grade. If your child is starting 7th grade in MCPS, or a private non-Catholic School, register now to begin the first of two of years preparation required to make Confirmation in 8 th grade. If your child is starting 2nd or 8th grade and attends a private Catholic School, other than St. Bart’s school, your child will also need to register with the CCD office for Communion and Confirmation. They need to complete the parish Sacramental requirements in addition to the religion classes they have at school. Please contact Cathy Mills at the Religious Education Office if you have any questions. St. Bart's has two Women's Prayer and Discussion Groups that meet in private homes. ST.
