As we on earth celebrate the triumph of all the saints—the ones officially canonized by the Church, and the countless others who have also reached heaven—we add nothing to their glory. But we give ourselves reason to hope. We too long to see the face of God and believe that we can one day be counted among those whose robes, as John tells us in the book of Revelation, are washed “white in the blood of the Lamb.” The passage from John’s First Letter offers further assurance: we are God’s children who will one day see God. But today’s Gospel pulls us past longing and reassurance into action. Jesus clearly tells us what we must do to be counted among the saints. We must be poor in spirit, hungry for holiness, merciful, single-hearted, and peacemakers! Then we too will see the face of God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Not only the canonized and well known saints are remembered but, also, the unknown and ordinary persons who persevered in loving lives of faith, hope and charity. Tomorrow we will celebrate All Souls Day which is the commemoration of all the Faithful Departed. This day we are reminded of the efficacy of intercessory prayer: our praying for the holy souls, and their praying for us. We will have the regular mass schedule in the morning and will have two evening masses: 6:00pm in English and 7:00pm in Spanish. There will be our usual commemoration of all those whose funerals took place here since last November 2, 2014, on Saturday, November 21st at 10:30am. As of Monday, October 26th, Generations of Faith has received 293 pledges or one-time gifts. I am happy to tell you that we have reached our goal of $980,000. However, we do not want to be complacent. The parish will receive 75 percent of any funds over the goal and we must address the wiring and lighting of the church. I am asking those parishioners who have not yet made a pledge or a gift to Generations of Faith to consider making one. Those of you who have made pledges and gifts have been a source of edification and your faith and spirit of sacrifice have humbled me. I am very blessed to be your pastor. Let’s pray for each other Msgr. Kevin B.
