Colecta para las Parroquias en Colaboración
Durante el fin de semana de 21/22 de mayo, toda la
gente de la Diócesis de Orange tendrá la oportunidad de
donar a la Colecta para las Parroquias en Colaboración.
Esta colecta es para asistir a parroquias en la Diócesis de
Orange que exponen necesidades continuas que no pueden ser pagadas por sus ingresos ordinarios y tienen necesidades urgentes, como reparaciones o mantenimiento.
Todo el dinero donado a esta colección es puesto en
un fondo restringido que será administrado por un grupo
que consiste en el laicado y el clero de la diócesis. Las
parroquias con necesidades como se ha indicado anteriormente, solicitarán becas de este fondo que se utiliza
para sus necesidades especificas. Más recientemente el
comité ha enfocado las subvenciones a cuestiones de
seguridad incluso reparaciones de emergencia eléctricas
y plomería.
Participando en la Colecta para las Parroquias en Colaboración, toda la gente de la Diócesis de Orange
ayuda el uno al otro apoyar los trabajos de nuestras parroquias que luchan económicamente. Hay sobres especiales en las bancas. Gracias por su generosidad.
¡No Hay Como Chicago para el P. Clem!
A partir del 6 de Junio el P. Clem Oyafemi vuelve a la
ciudad de los vientos para aceptar el cargo como Director
del Departamento de Cuidado Pastoral en la University of
Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System. Estará
combinando su ministerio como director y maestro, mientras da su servicio de cuidado pastoral a los pacientes,
familias y personal del hospital universitario que cuenta
con una capacidad para 500 camas hospitalarias. Antes
de comenzar su papel como capellán en el Centro Médico de San Judas, el P. Clem trabajó para la Arquidiócesis
de Chicago (2005-2013), por lo que éste cambio es un
poco como volver a casa para el.
Le Felicitamos y le deseamos lo mejor en ésta nueva
etapa de su vida. Su última celebración aquí en NSDG
será el 29 de Mayo. Sin duda alguna el P. Clem ha dejado una maravillosa, alegre y permanente huella aquí en
nuestra parroquia y con toda seguridad lo vamos a extrañar! Únase a nosotros para recepciones de despedida
después de las Misas de la mañana del 29 de mayo.

Parishes in Collaboration
Collection
Bilingual Healing Mass
here at OLG Church
On the weekend of May 21/22, all
people of the Diocese of Orange will have
the opportunity to donate to the Parishes
in Collaboration Collection. This collection is for the purpose of assisting parishes in the Diocese of Orange that exhibit ongoing
needs that cannot be paid for by their ordinary income
and have urgent needs, such as repairs and maintenance.
All money donated to this collection is put into a restricted fund that will be administered by a group consisting of laity and clergy of the diocese. Parishes with needs
as stated above will apply for grants from this fund to be
used for their specific needs. Most recently the committee has focused the grants to safety issues including
emergency electrical and plumbing repairs.
By participating in the Parishes in Collaboration Collection, all people of the Diocese of Orange are helping
one another support the works of our parishes that struggle financially. Special envelopes are in the pews. Thank
you for your generosity.

Chicago is His Kind of Place!
Fr. Clem Oyafemi is returning to the windy city to accept the position of Manager of the Pastoral Care Department at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System in Chicago, effective June 6. He will be
combining managerial ministry with teaching and providing pastoral care to patients, families and staff of a 500bed university hospital. Before becoming a chaplain at St.
Jude Medical Center, Fr. Clem worked for the Archdiocese of Chicago (2005-2013) so this is somewhat like
returning home for him.
Our congratulations and best wishes go with Fr. Clem
as he celebrates his last Mass with us on May 29. He has
made a joyful, lasting impression on our Guadalupe parish and he will certainly be missed! Join us for farewell
receptions after Masses the morning of May 29.

The Ministry of Care at Our Lady of Guadalupe
Church has as its purpose uniting with the Lord's sacrifice
and our community all those who are unable, due to illness or infirmity, to be present at Mass. Sent forth from
the liturgy to bring Communion to the sick, the Ministers
of Care represent Christ, and manifest faith and charity
on behalf of our parish for its members who are ill. Our
parish is blessed by the participation of so many in this
important ministry of comfort and concern for our sick
members. At this time, however, we are in need of additional ministers.

THANK YOU to all who have made a pledge or donation to the 2016 PSA, helping us raise $135,018 in pledges
and/or payments to date! That exceeds our parish commitment to diocesan ministries of $127,000 and means that we
will receive rebates to our parish of all monies collected over the $127,000 parish commitment. Those rebates will be
used for lighting in the church (50%) and for a new HVAC system for our school buildings (50%). If you have not already done so, please consider contributing now!
Additionally, 15 more donations/pledges of $10 or more will qualify the parish for the $5,000 incentive award from the
Diocese. We are doing well—let’s keep moving toward the finish line!

Reflections from the
Gloria Dei Choir
For Pentecost, the Gloria Dei
Choir will sing “Veni, Sancte Spiritus” from Lux Aeterna by
Morten Lauridsen. Lauridsen (b. 1943) is recognized as
America’s pre-eminent composer of choral music; his Lux
Aeterna for chorus and organ or chamber orchestra is a
five-movement setting of Latin texts related to themes of
light and spirit. The translation of the fourth movement,
sung by the choir today, follows:
Come, Holy Spirit, and send from heaven
Your ray of light.
Come, Father of the poor, come, giver of gifts,
come, light of hearts.
The best of Consolers, sweet guest of the soul,
sweet refreshment.
In labor, Thou art rest; in heat, Thou art the tempering;

During Communion, the choir will sing “Wana Baraka,”
arranged by Shawn Kirchner. Kirchner (b. 1970) has
served as composer-in-residence for the Los Angeles
Master Chorale, with whom he regularly sings. As part of
his work with the Church of the Brethren (which he serves
through their church in La Verne), Kirchner attended a
peace conference where he heard a delegation from Kenya singing the African praise song “Wana Baraka.” Kirchner’s ingenious arrangement is an elaboration of the parts
he heard the singers improvise in their spontaneous a
cappella performance of the song. Reflecting the miracle
of Pentecost, in which those listening to Jesus’ disciples
heard them each in their own language, the Gloria Dei
Choir bravely sings the piece in the original Swahili, translated as follows:
Wana baraka wale waombao;
They have blessings, those who pray;
Jesu mwenyewe alisema.
Alleluia! Jesus Himself said so. Praise God!
Wana amani,
They have peace,
Wana furaha,
They have joy,
Wana uzima.
They have well-being.
