ESPERANZA
E
n veiled and imaginative language,
our scriptures today point toward the
future and what will happen to those
who have died. The book of Daniel intends
to comfort a people suffering a cruel
persecution and presents the archangel
Michael, guardian of the Jewish people. He
will awaken those who sleep in the dust of
the earth, some to live forever, others to be an everlasting
horror and disgrace. The wise shall shine and the just shall
be like stars forever. In a similar vein, Jesus speaks of the
Son of Man—a title he used for himself—coming in the
clouds in power and glory with angels who will gather the
elect. Both readings call us to live in hope, assuring us that
at the end God will be there. We believe the One who
comes, the Son of Man, is the Lord Jesus Christ. As the
liturgical year nears its end, Hebrews holds up one last
time Jesus the high priest whose sacrifice has won us
forgiveness. Whenever the end-time comes, Christ will be
there, ushering a new age.

con los que han muerto. El libro de Daniel
tiene la intención de consolar a las
personas que sufren una cruel persecución
y presenta el arcángel Miguel, guardián del
pueblo judío. Él despertará a los que
duermen en el polvo de la tierra, algunos a vivir para siempre,
otros para el eterno castigo. Los sabios brillarán y los justos serán
como estrellas para siempre. En una línea similar, Jesús habla del
Hijo del Hombre, un título que utiliza para sí mismo, que vendrá

los escogidos. Ambas lecturas nos llaman a vivir en la esperanza,

pleno de conocer, amar y server a Jesús.

SUMMER MISSION TRIP 2016
Ages: For High Schoolers Where: Charleston, SC When: June 14 - 19, 2016
What type of work? The actual mission work is assigned to us as the trip gets
closer but usually is painting, helping at an elderly living facility, food pantry, or
something like that. More details as the date gets closer.
Cost:$250 (the actual cost in much higher but we are able to charge this price
because of the fundraising we'll be doing as well as other means).
