Those who attend the 9:15am Mass will notice that after the Opening Prayer, the
priest invites the young children to the front. The children are given a blessing and
then they go downstairs. This important ministry is called Children’s Liturgy of the
Word. Ms. Joyce Wiklund and her volunteer staff have done this ministry for
many years. The children go off to another place to have the Readings explained
to them in language more suited to their age. I know it is hard to believe but the
readings and homily might be inaccessible to children (read a lot of sarcasm in that
sentence.) If you have young children, I would encourage you to send them to Children’s
Liturgy of the Word. Parents are welcome to stay with the kids for CLOW.
My thanks to the folks who gave some helpful suggestions for the Online Confirmation project.
Certainly, we have to monitor compliance with assignments and Mass attendance. One of the
challenges is to teach well but also have the kids maintain contact with Church of the Holy
Spirit. The online portion would be only one aspect of the experience of preparation for
Confirmation.
In the past, the Youth Ensemble has presented the Passion Play on Palm Sunday. The Youth
Ensemble has since disbanded but we still would like to have the Passion Play on Palm
Sunday. If there are any young people interested in being part of the Passion Play, please let
me know.

Las personas que van a la Misa de 9:15 a.m. se darán cuenta que después de la Oración de
Entrada, el sacerdote invita a los niños a pasar al frente. Se les da una bendición a los niños
y van al zotano a participar en un programa que se llama Liturgia de la Palabra para Niños.
Joyce Wiklund y su equipo de voluntarios han sido parte de este programa por varios años.
Los niños van a este lugar a escuchar las lecturas del domingo adaptadas a su edad. Si tienen
hijos pequeños, los invito a que envíen a sus hijos a participar en este programa. Los papás
tambien pueden asistir a este programa con sus hijos, si lo desean.
Gracias a las personas que dieron sugerencias para el proyecto de Confirmación en linea.
Claro, que tendremos que dar seguimiento a tareas y asistencia a Misa. Uno de los retos es
el enseñar bien pero tambien mantener contacto con Church of the Holy Spirit. El programa
en lína por internet, una parte de la experiencia para la preparación de Confirmación.
En años anteriores, el grupo de “Youth Ensemble” presentaba la Pasión en la misa en inglés
el domingo de Palmas. Este grupo ya no existe pero de todas maneras nos gustaría presentar esta obra el domingo de Palmas. Si hay algún joven que desea ayudarnos a hacer esto
posible, favor de contactarnos.

Semana Nacional de Migración 2012 - 8 de enero del 2012 (Epifanía del Señor)
“¡Levántate y brilla, Jerusalén! Que ha llegado tu luz y la Gloria del Señor amaneció sobre ti”. (Isaías 60, 1)
Estas palabras de esperanza del profeta Isaías hablan a un pueblo que ha enfrentado dificultades durante mucho tiempo y
que busca la esperanza en la oscuridad. Nosotros, los Obispos Católicos de Illinois, ahora que estamos a las puertas de un
nuevo año, intentamos ofrecer la misma voz de esperanza a otro pueblo en lucha: las familias inmigrantes. El hecho de
que haya 11 millones de hombres, mujeres y niños en nuestro país, que viven en las sombras y tienen miedo de que su
familia sea separada a causa de la deportación es prueba de que nuestro actual sistema tiene fallas importantes y de que
nuestras políticas de inmigración han fracasado. Oremos para que en este Año Nuevo podamos reconocer la necesidad de
una reforma migratoria integral que respete el imperio de la ley, pero que también asegure que se aplique la ley de manera
justa y compasiva a las familias de inmigrantes que viven entre nosotros y que necesitan de nuestra ayuda.
Por lo anterior, ¡cuán apropiado resulta que celebremos la Semana Nacional de Migración (8 al 14 de enero) comenzando
con la fiesta de la Epifanía de Nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo! Al igual que el viaje que hicieron los Reyes Magos
siguiendo a la estrella hasta la Fuente de la esperanza, del amor y de la libertad encontrada en el Santo Niño que yacía
acostado en un pesebre de Belén, muchas familias también se encuentran en una travesía en busca de la esperanza en un
nuevo país. Estas familias buscan un lugar donde encontrar seguridad económica, emocional, física y espiritual,
anhelando esas cosas que son necesarias para vivir con dignidad humana: un trabajo productivo y un salario justo,
alimentación, vivienda, educación, salud y protección a su persona, cosas que con demasiada frecuencia están fuera de su
alcance en su tierra natal. Por desgracia, bajo el actual sistema de inmigración en nuestro país, somos testigos de la
trágica separación de muchas de estas familias. Sus esperanzas se transforman en desesperación. Pero esto no tiene por
qué seguir siendo así, debemos tratar de acompañar a estas familias en su camino y apoyarlas en sus esperanzas.
Debemos hacer esto porque las esperanzas que tienen para sí mismos y para sus familias son también las nuestras.
Durante los próximos meses, cada diócesis católica de Illinois compartirá historias de familias inmigrantes que son
miembros de nuestras parroquias y comunidades. En ellas nos contarán sus experiencias de dificultades vividas en el
pasado y en el presente, así como sus éxitos y esperanzas para el futuro. Estas historias se difundirán en los periódicos
diocesanos, en los boletines parroquiales y en el sitio web de la Conferencia Católica de Illinois
(www.catholicconferenceofillinois.org), así como en otras fuentes. Por favor tómese un tiempo para leer sus historias e
informarse sobre los temas de inmigración que afectan de manera significativa a sus vecinos y compañeros feligreses.
Hacemos un llamado a todos los católicos y a las personas de fe en Illinois para que oren por estas familias y para que se
conviertan en esas epifanías: manifestaciones del Cristo interno que antes estaban ocultas y que ahora revelan a los demás
la profunda compasión de Cristo a través de nuestros esfuerzos individuales y colectivos para dar esperanza y apoyo a las

God of justice and mercy, we pray today for the courage
to witness for justice for the stranger, justice for the poor and
disenfranchised, justice for those who come to this country
willing to do our hardest jobs, our least-rewarded jobs, to feed
their families and give their children hope for the future.
We pray for their children, who need safety, security,
the benefits of good education, the promise of a good life.
We commit outselves to work for laws that protect
the strangers, that will give them equity in this society,
laws that will make it possible not to be strangers any more.
Guide our actions and give us the words to speak to the hearts
of our leaders in government, to reach the light of their
consciences, so they will shape just laws.
Help us be instruments of your justice.
We pray this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
The Prayer Shawl Ministry at CHS is one of the many ways we reach out to those in need in our community and
beyond. Our shawls and prayer blankets are started, worked on, and finished with prayer.
Each shawl/blanket brings to the recipient the warmth, love and concern, that through
prayers, has been absorbed in every stitch. Prayer shawls are made to give to those who
are physically ill, grieving, or lonely. They can also be given to celebrate a joyous occasion
such as a birth, significant birthday, graduation or other accomplishment.
Anyone may give or receive a prayer shawl.

Our next Prayer Shawl Ministry gathering will take place on Tuesday, January 17th
at 7:00 p.m. in the Ministry Center.

dynamic presentations, and especially for her ability to explain complex concepts in understandable and practical ways. She draws on academic and business research combined with the lived reality of over 30 years of parish ministry. Amy is a
nationally acclaimed speaker and was featured in Financial Advisor magazine, as well as, a regular columnist for the Journal of
Financial Planning. She consults with businesses, professionals, and individuals across the country, and is known for her dynamic and
engaging workshops, classes, and presentations.

English as a Second Language (ESL) is a program designed for
adults, 18 years +, whose first language is not English. The program
helps students improve their skills in listening, speaking, reading
