Patrick Peyton from Rosary Gems 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time July 31, 2016 Page 4 The Pastor’s Desk Dear Friends, May the Lord give you peace! You have no doubt seen the Franciscan artwork in the Carnevale Center, especially in Downey Hall. The paintings of Franciscan Saints, Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Joseph are all commissioned works by Brother David Haack, OFM. Many of you may have met Brother David over the years at one of his many exhibits in the Carnevale Center. I am sorry to tell you that Brother David was visited by Sister Death and went home to God on Wednesday, July 20. His funeral was Monday, July 25 at St. Bonaventure University where Brother David lived and ministered for many years. Please keep Brother David, his family and the friars in your prayers. You are always so generous to the St. Mary’s Food Pantry and I am very grateful! One of our local Pompton Lakes merchants is offering another way to give to the Food Pantry. Avenue Haircutters on Wanaque Avenue is taking $1 off your haircut if you bring in a nonperishable food item for the Food Pantry. This drive goes until the end of September. Thanks to Pete DiMarco and everyone at Avenue Hair Cutters! Remember last year when I introduced the St. Mary’s Discipleship Prayer? Well, here it is for your praying pleasure! Have a great week! Pace e Bene, Fr. Frank Sevola, OFM, Pastor St. Mary’s Discipleship Prayer Blessed are You, Lord God of all creation, In Your goodness You have created us In Your mercy, You have redeemed us And in Your ever loving Wisdom You sustain us with Your Spirit. You have given us the gift of faith, the gift of the St. Mary’s community and the gift of Your call to be Your disciples. We beg you now for the gifts of: Enlightenment that through our PRAYER we may know your holy and true command; Discipleship that we may SERVE the needs of the community and not simply our own, and Gratitude that we may GIVE of ourselves for the good of all. May we discover what is ours to do and may we do good works each day for the sake of Your Kingdom. Amen. Fr. Frank can be reached at [email protected] Here They Come... The Giants and The Jets...
