The flow of the sequence eddies in the river of his associations as he passes from picture to picture.… The photographs are only objects upon which significance is spread like sheets on the ground to dry.… A sequence of photographs, then functions as a little drama of dreams with a memory.… When a sequence is brewing, the feeling inside is akin to a storm gathering. Only when the storm has passed and the photographs be like leaves all over the floor may I spell out among them the name of the force that made communication. Self-discovery through a camera? I am scared to look for fear of discovering how shallow my Self is! I will persist however … because the camera has its eye on the exterior world. Camera will lead my constant introspection back into the world. So camerawork will save my life.” Minor White To create space to the voices we can’t hear. To uncover what the fear impedes seeing, to don’t remain silent, to inquire, to continue seeing and reproducing the beauty: the Photography. To don’t take away of its surrounding, to add options where seems there aren’t, to communicate when we don’t understand the words, to, as Wim Wenders says “step out of his shell to be “on the other side” of the world, and thereby remember better, understand better, see better, hear better, and love more deeply”: the Photography. Below, the selected works will speak by themselves and, I hope, also speak for me. 9 VEZ photographic intervention by Nilce Silvina Enrietti Loisa © 2009 all rights reserved VEZ conceptual details: This work is an extrapolation of our intervention over the life in the photographic intervention. In this analogy, I chose the support of photographic paper, at once resistant and liable to tear, as evident and expressive way of show the integration of two historical moments in which we can be involved. Involvement related with reparation, with sustainable use of the resources what is not only possible, but offer we opportunity to acquire higher values and responsible us in construction of better society. I did the theoretical investigation during my Field Naturalist studies, taking classes of Evolutive Bi- 10 ology, Ecology, Zoology, Morphological Botanic, Heritage Interpretation, Environmental Education in Natural Reserves, Sustainable Development, Conservation and Entomology. Thinking on the characteristic that leads to a human being to start communication (or pretend to), knowing in-depth the environmental problems and the unexpected of the other living beings adaptations to pressures, I wondered how I could use the powerful reach of artistic language to warn about our particular behaviour, since we have consciousness of our own existence and the ability to apply it for modify attitudes. The Art, expression of the human emotionality, indivisible part of the complex social network, is the ideal tool to provide alternatives to a troubled world that leads directly to our specie toward self-destruction. VEZ descriptive details: All the interventions have a background image + another stuck over it. The foreground images are torn but not destroyed, allowing see, through the gap, a fraction of background copy. Each torn pictures, at foreground, depicts an ecosystem or a taxonomic group; the background however is always the same, a wasteland patch, without colour (despite it is a copy on colour paper). Thus it contrasts, drastically, an image of Biodiversity as synonymous or augury of future and health with an extreme Disturbance image as augury of the opposite: no health - no life - no future. The partial tears of the front images, confer the embodiment into images of the current condition, still at time of being repaired, of the environment we inhabit. The monotony of the background photo works as a catalyst for what will our future generations see if we don’t step up measures in order to produce a real change. VEZ used technique: Analogue photography, film digitized with drum scanner, digital photography, printed in pearly surface photographic paper whose subtle texture suggests greater realism into the image. Each work intervention was done manual and specifically. VEZ trajectory: It was first exhibited in Buenos Aires City, since then it has shown in several galleries of Argentina. During 2010/2011 its multimedia version (musicalized by Master Diego Penelas) was projected at the Muséum d´Histoire Naturelle de Marseille, France, beside other two works of the author. During 2011 was exhibited at La Concepción Botanical Garden, Málaga, Spain. In several opportunities was exhibited beside its multimedia version and a conferences series and audiovisual projections. VEZ four of the ten interventions that compose it: 11 Calilegua National Park, Jujuy Province, Argentina 12 Phyllomedusa boliviana, Baritú National Park, Salta Province, Argentina 13 Cuevas, Jujuy Province, Argentina 14 Liolaemus sp., Nahuel Huapi National Park, Neuquén Province, Argentina 15 Babas del Diablo II (Devil’s Dribble II) by Nilce Silvina Enrietti Loisa © 2004, all rights reserved In many Argentinian regions people call “Devil’s dribble” (Babas del Diablo) the spider web that, carried by wind, are using juveniles of some species of spiders to get away from its mothers, searching its own place for living when adults. Babas del Diablo II conceptual details: The essential edition criteria and the constituent structural design of this work was organized in order to create the propitious space to think about the uncontrollable human characteristic of killing motivated by aesthetic dislike. The theoretical investigation was based on studies carried out in aesthetic preferences through analysis of human behaviour during the past century, mainly by zoologist Desmond Morris in England who, also, includes ethnobiological, psychological and anthropological researches. During this time I conducted a series of surveys among children and adults of both sexes, of the city and province of Buenos Aires, on their way of connection with animals and plants and ideology regarding the rights of living beings. Babas del Diablo II descriptive details: Shown in large size “ugly” animals, according to the collective parameter, + small photos arranged in series in which the last place 16 represents the human being (explicitly or implicitly). The series induce the equality character. Babas del Diablo II used technique: Analog photography, film digitized with drum scanner, digital photography, printed in photographic paper, glossy surface which gives subtly greater contrast and colour intensity. Babas del Diablo II trajectory: The first version of this work was gone across several Museums and galleries of Argentina since 2004. Its multimedia version, musicalized by the great musician Fausto Ferreiro, was projected at the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle de Marseille, France, during 2010/2011, with two another works of the author (“VEZ” and “Visions de Argentine”). Also, during 2011, was exhibit at La Concepción Botanical Garden, Málaga, Spain. Babas del Diablo II seven of the thirteen works that compose it: 17 18 19 20 21 The Alluring! © Sergio Bonzón 2011 Collective exhibition mounted in material frame and online platform, curated and produced by Sergio Bonzón. The Alluring! conceptual details: Since antiquity the idea of “the beauty” has been the aesthetic conceptualization motive. Currently we live in a time in which the exacerbation, the exaggeration and trivialization nullify the enjoyment capacity. It’s in this context of the excess, in which we ask ourselves about the excess of the beauty, meaning the most beautiful: The Alluring! The Alluring! my involvement: Partial view of the reality, of what the mirror gives back us. Visual bias, polari- 22 ty: to be beautiful or not. Dualism: hideshow... The demand of to be fine, to be beautiful, young, etc reaches all of us, but... Is it enough to “Be”? The Alluring! used technique: Digital photography. Low exposure, patience, a table lamp, a bit of makeup and very curious to explore concepts through images. The Alluring! works: 23 Self Portraits © Silvina Enrietti 2011 The Beginning - The Journey - The End * * Call by Argentinean photographer Bárbara Domato. Creative challenge that got to work under one main idea to 18 photographers, each one of different disciplinary field with distant techniques and expression ways. The immediate, 7 days to develop the image, and the evanescent, the work was mounted and dismounted on a single day, they were crossed by the collective curatorship through a complex shared creative process. The Beginning - The Journey - The End my perspective: The beginning is the end and in the end begins the new cycle. The work has a dominant colour for each stage of the same being at movement. The crystallization of a movement that was visible in the past can now be constituent of “dumb” image that, perhaps, to be visible at a future time. The Beginning - The Journey - The End used technique: The Beginning: analog photography. The Journey and The End: analog photography, film digitized by high level scanning, Photoshop digital montage. Printed in pearly surface photographic paper to sustain and emphasize the film grain.
