ABC Fiesta Songbook
When I was six, I announced to my parents that when I
grew up I was going to be a baseball player and a
musician. When it was time to pick a language to study in
school, I chose Spanish so I'd be able to talk to my future
Major League teammates. And though my baseball career
ended after college, I never stopped speaking Spanish. I
wrote these bilingual songs during my tours in Latin
America and around the United States, playing in theaters,
schools, libraries, and everywhere in between. This album
brings together some of my lifelong loves: reading, music,
and the Spanish language. I hope you enjoy listening to
these songs as much as I enjoyed writing them!
Cuando tenía seis años, les dije a mis padres que cuando
yo fuera grande, quería ser un beisbolista y un músico.
Cuando llego el momento de escoger que idioma quería
estudiar en la escuela, yo escogí español, porque quería
poder hablar con mis compañeros de me futuro equipo de
la Liga Mayor. Aunque mi carera profesional de beisbol
termino después de graduarme de la universidad, nunca
pare de español. Yo escribí estas canciones bi-lingües
durante mis giras por Latinoamérica y Los Estados
Unidos, tocando en teatros, escuelas, bibliotecas, y en
muchos lugares más. Este álbum refeja varias cosas que
han sido mi pasión por toda mi vida: leer, música, y el
idioma español.¡Espero que disfruten las canciones del
mismo modo que yo disfrute escribirlas!

Before my frst tour in Mexico, I asked my friend Enrique, "What do musicians say to the crowds here
at the beginning of concerts?" He told me, "Hola amigos! Como están?
Antes de mi primera gira por México, le pregunte a mi amigo Enrique, “¿Qué les dicen los artistas a su
público al subir escenario antes de empezar su concierto?” El me contestó, “¡Hola amigos! ¿Cómo
están?”
QUIERO LEER
My mother is a children’s book illustrator, so I grew up surrounded by books. Even today I’ve always
got a stack of books on my bedside table that I can’t wait to read.
Mi madre es una ilustradora de libros infantiles, y yo crecí rodeado de libros, y hasta el día de hoy,
tengo libros en la mesa al lado de mi cama que deseo empezar a leer.

When I wrote this song, I was thinking about how much I used to love it when my parents read me
stories before bedtime. And what kid doesn’t love a good story?
Cuando compuse esta canción, me estaba acordando de cómo me encantaba cuando mis padres me
leían cuentos antes de dormir. ¿A qué niño no le gusta un buen cuento?
HABICHUELAS
I was taught that the Spanish word for "beans" is frijoles. One day at lunch my percussionist friend
Eguie explained to me that in Puerto Rico beans are "habichuelas."
Hace tiempo yo aprendí que la palabra “beans” es frijoles en español. Pero un día, estaba comiendo
con mi amigo percusionista llamado Eguie, y él me explico que en Puerto Rico frijoles se dice
habichuelas.

El aprender diferentes idiomas abre las puertas a otros mundos. ¡Pero primero se tiene que empezar con
el alfabeto!
VAMOS A LA PLAYA
On our honeymoon in Colombia, Missus G and I took a hike through the jungle and arrived at a
beautiful beach. Fortunately I always take my guitar (and my hat) wherever I go, and I wrote this song
as sun went down.
Cuando Missus G y yo estábamos de luna de miel en Colombia, fuimos a caminar por la selva y
llegamos a una playa preciosa. Afortunadamente, siempre cargo con mi guitarra (y mi sombrero) por
donde quiera que vaya, y escribí esta canción mientras que el sol bajaba.
LA GUAGUA
When Veronica told me she was going to take "la guagua" to my place for a jam session, I was confused.
Turns out that there are lots of different Spanish words for “bus.”
Cuando mi amiga Veronica me dijo que iba a tomar “la guauga” a mi casa para nuestra practica, yo
estaba confundido. Resulta que hay diferentes maneras de decir autobús en español.
COCODRILO
When I was a kid, I always loved scary stories. So you better watch out! Now it's my turn to write scary
songs for kids.
Cuando yo era niño, me fascinaban los cuentos de miedo. ¡Pero cuidado! Ahora es mi turno de escribir
canciones de miedo para niños.
FROTA TU PANZA
Try dancing along to this song as I sing it. Here’s a quick Spanish lesson to help you out: panza means
tummy; nariz means nose; rodilla means knee.
Trata de bailar a esta canción mientras la canto y les voy a dar una breve lección en ingles para
ayudarles a practicar: panza es “tummy”, manos es “hands”, y piso es “foor”.
PALETAS
There are lots of words for “lollipops” in Spanish. I thought I knew them all, but I was wrong! Oh, and
the French have their own word for lollipops, too.
Hay muchas maneras de decir “lollipops” en español. ¡Yo pensé saberlas todas, pero estaba equivocado!
Oh, y los franceses tienen su propia manera de decir “lollipops” también.
RATONES
Songwriters love to use rhymes, so I couldn’t resist rhyming “ratones” with “pantalones.” But no one
really likes rats in their pants, do they?
A los compositores les encanta hacer rimas, y yo no pude resistir hacer rima con las palabras ratones y
pantalones. ¿Pero a nadie le gusta tener ratones en sus pantalones verdad?
BONGO BONGO
Whenever I hear bongos, congas or timbales it immediately makes me happy. This song is about the
things I care about most: music, family, and friendship.
Cuando escucho bongos, congas o timbales de inmediato me siento feliz. Esta canción se trata de lo que
es más importante para mí: música, familia, y amistad.

A leading fgure in the children’s music world, Mister G (Ben Gundersheimer) is a
former indie rocker who was awarded the frst songwriting scholarship in the
history of Berklee College of Music. He toured internationally prior to earning a
Master of Education degree and becoming a full-time family musician and
teaching artist.
Mister G's last bilingual CD, Chocolalala, won a Parents Choice Gold Award and he
was recently named him one of the Best Live Acts for Kids and Families. He has
