The Redemptorists - Boston`s Basilica
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ From the Rector Very Rev. Joseph Tizio, C.Ss.R. There are several celebrations of importance this week. First of all, today, Sunday, May 29th, is the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, known as Corpus Christi. The beauty of this feast is that it provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the most precious gift which Christ gave us, the gift of the Eucharist. Truly, the Eucharist is the source and center of our worship as Catholics; everything we do in the Church revolves around the Eucharist. It is always worth repeating that as Catholics, we believe that the bread truly becomes the Body of Christ and the wine becomes the Blood of Christ. What that means is that in the Eucharist we have the true and living presence of Jesus Christ among us. Beyond all that our church is open every day and twice each week we have exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. You can walk in to visit Christ in the Eucharist almost any time of the day! This Friday, June 3rd is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I think that the image of the Sacred Heart is one of our most striking and beautiful images of Christ. It is a wonderful symbol of his love for us, a heart on fire with love for us, a heart crowned with thorns, willing to suffer and die for us. We celebrate Jesus Christ, meek and humble of heart. On this day we not only remember how much God has loved us in Christ but we also pray that we too can be meek and humble of heart. Finally, this is also Memorial Day weekend, the time in our country when we remember those who gave their lives in defense of our country. This is a good weekend to remember that we enjoy freedom because others gave their lives for it. It is also a good time to pray for a day when young men and women will no longer risk their lives in war and violence. Pray for peace! Hegarty Chong Wah Fook and Deceased FROM THE RECTOR En Español Hay varias celebraciones de importancia esta semana.
