Summary:
The development 2-A “Meloneras”, at present called “Costa Meloneras”, is located in the south of the
island of Gran Canaria in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, surrounded to the north by the
GC-812 motorway and to the south by the Atlantic Ocean. It has an area of 122,29 Ha of which 924.201
m2 are residential, non-residential and commercial plots mainly for single-family houses and large hotel
complexes.
The urbanisation process included 19 roads of different sections and variable widths between 14 m
and 23 m and a total length of 4.943 m. The roads are curved with radiuses between 60 m and 2000 m
with various roundabouts at their intersections. The slope of the roads is up to 6% but for short distances.
To install these roads and streets 102.000 m3 were excavated some of rock and 72.000 m3 were refilled.
The project defines and orders the pedestrian and green areas planned with the accesses to the
beach and a promenade along the coast following the coastline as much as possible. Care was taken
with these spaces to use the most adequate finishes for paving, landscaping, urban furniture, illumination
etc. in order to integrate the work into the landscape and favour the touristic nature of the development.
To provide services to the development a network of water pipes up to Ø150 mm and connected to
an existing water mains, an irrigation system using regenerated water, a fire extinguishing system,
separate rainwater and wastewater networks that run off by gravity to existing drainage were installed.
The channelling of some ravines was also needed. The electrical installation for the development was
distributed through a network of 4.630 m of medium voltage cabling and 12 transformation centres. A
network of public lighting of different types along the roads and in pedestrian areas and the telephone
network were also installed.
