Mensaje del Padre Timothy
The Narrow Gate
La puerta angosta
Jesus wouldn’t answer the question about how
many were going to be saved. Salvation is not about
statistics or about the others but about ME. It depends on my accepting or rejecting what Jesus offers me.
The path of salvation is one of following him. He is the
way. The effort we make to enter through the “narrow
gate” means following in Jesus’ footsteps along the path
he walked. Thus we also walk to Jerusalem and to Calvary. Calvary was an important stop on the way to his final
destination. It was a moment of great suffering, darkness,
and loneliness which finally gave way to the light and joy
of the resurrection. Jesus’ tomb is found today in the
Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. To enter the
tomb one needs to crouch down low. Inside it’s dark and
narrow. And yet it was here that he rose from the dead.
Then he rolled away the stone and filled the world with his
light. The narrow gate is the place of choice from which we
leave the difficulties of this world to enter into the light. It is
the entry to pardon, mercy and love without limits.

Jesucristo se negó a contestar la pregunta sobre el
número de los que se salvarán. La salvación no se
trata ni de la estadística, ni de los demás sino de mí.
Depende de mí aceptación o de mi rechazo de lo que
Cristo me ofrece. El camino de la salvación es seguirle
paso a paso en sus huellas. Él es el camino. Esforzarnos
por pasar por la puerta angosta, significa el seguir sus
huellas por todo el camino que travesó. Así también nosotros caminamos a Jerusalén y al Calvario. El Calvario fue
una parada importante en el camino hacia su desino final.
Fue un momento de gran sufrimiento, oscuridad y soledad
que al fin, dio paso a la luz y al gozo de la resurrección.
La tumba de Cristo se encuentra hoy en la Iglesia del
Santo Sepulcro en Jerusalén. Para entrar se necesita uno
agacharse. Adentro está oscuro y estrecho. Y sin embargo es aquí donde Cristo resucitó. Luego quitó la piedra y
lleno el mundo entero con su luz. La puerta angosta, entonces, es el lugar indicado de donde salimos del mundo
de dificultades para entrar en la luz. Es la entrada al perdón, a la misericordia y al amor sin límites.

J U B I L E E
OF
Mercy
This Jubilee Year of Mercy and Pope Francis’ ministry
have renewed our understanding that the Church’s heart is
open wide to all, and the heart of the gospel is God’s mercy. Flooded with God’s mercy, our hearts should overflow
as channels bringing to wounded and weary hearts Jesus’
healing mercy. For Jesus warns, our own salvation is not
guaranteed by the Liturgy of the Word (“you taught in our
streets”) nor by the Eucharist (“we ate and drank in your
company”) (Luke 13:26). People far from that banquet,
“from the east and the west and from the north and the
south . . . will recline at table in the kingdom of
God” (13:29). Rather, showing mercy is key to obtaining
mercy ourselves (Matthew 5:7). So we should never dare
ask what “someone” asked Jesus, “Lord, will only a few
people be saved?” (Luke 13:23). The crucial question is
“Will I be saved?” And Jesus’ answer is another question:
“Have you shown mercy to everyone, freely, gladly, no limits, no conditions, no exceptions?”

Este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia y el ministerio del
Papa Francisco vienen renovando nuestro entendimiento
de que el corazón de la Iglesia está abierto para todas las
personas y, el corazón del Evangelio es la misericordia de
Dios. Inundados con la misericordia de Dios, nuestros
corazones deben desbordarse como arroyos llevando a las
personas cansadas y heridas la misericordia consoladora
de Jesús. Ya que Jesús señala que nuestra salvación no
está garantizada por la Liturgia de la Palabra (“tú has enseñado en nuestras plazas”) ni por la Eucaristía (“Hemos
comido y bebido contigo”) (Lucas 13:26). Habrá personas
lejos de ese banquete “del oriente y del poniente, del norte
y del sur . . . participarán en el banquete del Reino de
Dios” (13:29). Por el contrario, mostrar misericordia es la
clave para obtener misericordia nosotros mismos (Mateo
5:7). Para que nunca debamos atrevernos a preguntar lo
que “alguien” le preguntó a Jesús: “Señor, ¿es verdad que
son pocos los que se salvan?” (Lucas 13:23). La pregunta
debiera ser: “¿Yo me salvaré?” Y la respuesta de Jesús sería otra pregunta: “¿Has sido misericordioso con tu prójimo, de manera libre, con alegría, sin límites, sin condiciones, sin excepciones?”

demands that we learn to live for the sake of others.

around your house to see what furniture, household items,
and clothing you no longer use…and give it to the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul.
During this Year of Mercy, the faithful may gain an indulgence by "visit[ing] for a suitable time their brothers or sisters in need or in difficulty (the sick, the imprisoned, the
elderly living alone, the handicapped, etc.), as if making a
pilgrimage to Christ present in them." We invite you to join
the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and to share in the grace
of visiting the homes of people in need. Please leave us a

These meetings are open to those men between the
ages of 35 and 55 who may be interested in serving the
Church as a Permanent Deacon. Attendance at one of
the above meetings is mandatory for application to the
Diocesan Permanent Diaconate Formation Program. Married men must attend with their wives. During these
meetings an overview of the formation program and the
application process will be presented. Please speak with
your Pastor about your interest before planning on attending. For more information, please call the Office of

The Dominican Literacy Center in Aurora
Our organization offers free English classes to adult
women at our Center here in Aurora from September
through May. We are currently enrolling students for classes beginning Sept. 7th. Classes are Monday thru Friday
days and evenings. Students are asked to pay $25 for their
