LIFE IS BETTER WITH EUCHARIST
J
esus Christ stays with us in the Eucharist so
that we can accept what is real, and not
deny it or be afraid of it. To participate in the
Eucharist means to give up hiding, staying
away from people, denying the needs of our
body, refusing to speak out and to sing, trying
always to stay safe and not take any risk—when
risk is the condition of human development.
The Eucharist is Holy not because it brings a
divine touch into our otherwise completely human and individual lives. It is Holy because
without it we will end up denying and avoiding
some basic dimension of being human. Some
people live years of their life afraid of flying, of
dentists, of people of a different skin color or
language, of crowds, of quiet, of being vulnerable, of admitting their sins, of asking for forgiveness, of reaching out to know new people,
of laying down their lives for others. You can
hang onto all or some of these fears and still
“go to Mass,” but you can’t celebrate Eucharist
with the community and continue to live with a
deep denial of reality. Something is missing to
us humanly and personally if we cannot enter
into and celebrate Eucharist. Jesus didn’t give
us in his body and blood as a doctor prescribes
a blood thinner or some other drug. He gives
us himself in a way that demands that we accept and appreciate community, body, and language, and make those realities godly in a new
sense. Jesus took the basics of real life as the
foundation of Holy Eucharist. If we don’t find
God in community, the body, and language, we
will either imagine a God detached from our
everyday existence, or cut him down to the size
of the God in my heart. This is not the way we
were made nor the way God is.
TOTAL COMMITMENT TO GOD

od is still among us doing his work,
namely, continually creating the world.
And we are part of the process. It is deadly to
separate the reality of the Eucharist from the
rest of our lives. “The Eucharist commits us to
God wherever we are ourselves, which is to
say, wherever we are related to others through
language and our bodies” ((Arthur Vogel). The
Eucharist presses us to recognize and worship
God whenever we accept our humanity and do
not deny it. Give up Mass and Communion and
see what happens to your family attitudes,
your feeling that something vital is missing, or
finding yourself getting more sad, suspicious,
and critical of people. “Gather, share, break
and care,” catches a little of the “we” dimension of Christ’s supper and sacrifice which is
never finished. There we are reminded that,“
Christianity is either the means of being our
real selves in the real world or it is nothing.”
We just cannot add on the Eucharistic Liturgy
as a pious exercise to be fitted into our week of
other most important commitments. Some say,
“I don’t need to go to church. God is in me.”
Well, children usually get beyond that level of
thinking by the first grade. And what kind of
God doesn’t move us out of our selfish comfort
zones? You can feel pretty good about yourself,
but try living without the rest of us.
THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
T
hat is the title of today’s feast in the church
calendar. But see if you can put that title
into a complete sentence. For example, “We
receive the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass.”
“The Body and Blood of Christ is what makes
us brothers and sisters.” “I recognize the Body
and Blood of Christ when I stand before the
suffering, the hungry, the angry, the pure of
heart, my family members, peacemakers.”
“The Body and Blood of Christ brings forgiveness and healing, a true sense of community, a
wonder and awe and worship from my heart.”
“The Body and Blood of Christ keeps on tying
together forever the divine and the human, the
sacred and the secular, God with us and God
infinitely beyond us.” “The Body and Blood of
Christ gives me a God I can get my tongue and
my teeth into, a God who loved me before I
loved him, a God whose covenant is with us,
not just with me.” Supply your own sentences, and see how far you can go.

La vida es mejor con la Eucaristía
esucristo está con nosotros en la Eucaristía así que
podemos aceptar que es real, y no negarlo o tenerle miedo. Participar en la Eucaristía quiere decir
abandonar lo oculto, mantenerse alejado de las personas, negar las necesidades de nuestro cuerpo, negarse a hablar y a cantar, siempre tratando de estar
seguro y no tomar ningún riesgo —cuando el riesgo
es desarrollado por condición humana—. La Eucaristía es Santa no porque trae un toque divino en
nuestro adentro, por lo demás es completamente
humana y vive individual. Es Santa porque sin ella
terminaremos negando y evitando algunas dimensiones básicas del ser humano. Algunas personas pasan
años de su vida con miedo de volar, de dentistas, de
las personas de diferente color o idioma, de la muchedumbre, del silencio, de ser vulnerable, de admitir sus pecados, de pedir perdón, extender la mano
para conocer nuevas personas, de poner sus vidas por
otros. Puedes conectar todos o algunos de estos miedos y todavía “ir a misa,” pero no puedes celebrar la
Eucaristía sin la comunidad y continuar para vivir
con un profundo rechazo de la realidad. Algo nos
está faltando humanamente y personalmente si no
podemos entrar y celebrar la Eucaristía. Jesús no nos
da su Cuerpo y su Sangre como un doctor nos receta
transfusión de sangre o alguna otra medicina. El se
nos da de una manera que demanda que aceptemos y
apreciemos la comunidad, cuerpo, e idioma, y hacer
esas realidades piadosas en un nuevo sentido. Jesús
tomo lo básico de la vida real como fundación de la
Santa Eucaristía. Sí no encontramos a Dios en la comunidad, el cuerpo, y el idioma, tampoco nos imaginamos a Dios separado de nuestra existencia diaria, o
reducirlo al tamaño de nuestro corazón. No fuimos
hechos de esa manera ni la manera de ser de Dios.

Compromiso total a Dios

Y nosotros somos parte de ese proceso. Esto es mortalmente separar la realidad de la Eucaristía del resto
de nuestras vidas.
“La Eucaristía nos compromete a Dios dondequiera
que estemos, que quiere decir, dondequiera que estemos relacionados con otros a través del idioma y
nuestros cuerpos” (Arthur Vogel). La Eucaristía nos

presiona a reconocer y rendir culto a Dios cuando
aceptamos nuestra humanidad y no la neguemos.
Deja la Misa y la Comunión y veras que le pasa a la
actitud de tu familia, faltan tus sentimientos que
algunas veces es vital, o te encontraras más triste,
suspicaz, y critico de personas. “Reunirse, compartir, descanso y cuidado,” agarra un poco de la dimensión de nosotros y el sacrifico de la cena de
Cristo la cual nunca ha terminado. Allí recordamos
que, “Cristiandad es o los medios de ser nuestros
egos reales en el mundo real o no es nada.” Nosotros no podemos agregar la Liturgia Eucaristía como un ejercicio piadoso que sea adaptado dentro de
nuestra semana con otro compromiso más importante. Alguno dice, “Yo no necesito ir a la iglesia.
Dios esta conmigo.” Bien, los niños normalmente
van más allá de ese nivel de pensamiento en el primer grado. ¿Y que clase de Dios nos saca de nuestra zona de consuelo egoísta? Tú puedes sentirte
muy bien tu solo, pero trata de vivir sin el resto de
nosotros.
El Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo
se es el titulo de la fiesta de hoy en el calendario de la iglesia. Pero ve si puedes poner ese
titulo en una oración completa. Por ejemplo,
“Nosotros recibimos el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo en la Misa.” “El Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo es
lo que nos hace hermanos y hermanas.” “Yo reconozco el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo cuando me
detengo ante el sufrimiento, el hambriento, el enojado, el puro de corazón, los miembros de mi familia, los pacíficos.” “El cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo
trae perdón y sanación, un verdadero sentido de
comunidad, un deseo y temor y culto desde mi corazón.” “El Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo mantiene
siempre ligados juntos lo divino y lo humano, lo
sagrado y lo seglar, Dios con nosotros y Dios infinitivamente más allá de nosotros.” “El Cuerpo y
Sangre de Cristo me da un Dios que puedo agarrarlo con mi lengua y mis dientes, un Dios que me
ama antes de que yo lo ame, un Dios cuyo convenio
es con nosotros, no solo conmigo.” Proporciona
tus propias oraciones, y ve que tan lejos puedes ir.

MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS
Feast Day: June 19th
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus came into the Catholic
faith through Saint Margaret Mary. Jesus asked her to have a
special feast established in honor of His Sacred Heart on the
Friday after the feast of Corpus Christi.
(The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ)
He asked that we receive Holy Communion on that day
making atonement for the sins of the world by an act of reparation. Jesus also asked her to have an image made of
His Sacred Heart. He promises special blessings to those
souls who would display and honor His image.
IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY
Feast Day: June 20th
Mary's heart symbolizes the overwhelming love and devotion she had for her Son.
It commemorates her virtues and sanctity.

VERDADERA COMIDA

Nosotros somos bendecidos por Dios ya que comemos el verdadero cuerpo de Cristo y bebemos la verdadera
sangre.
Hoy celebramos El Santísimo cuerpo y sangre de Cristo, una de las mejores herencias que recibimos durante el
transcurso de nuestras vidas (los que tenemos la dicha de heredarla). Hoy tenemos una frase y un suceso que nos
sitúan en el mismo centro de nuestra vida con Dios y con los hermanos. Con este hecho y con esta frase del
evangelio de hoy, aprendemos una nueva manera de vivir y enfocar nuestra vida cristiana: una vida en comunión
con Dios y los hermanos en perfecta unidad.
El Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo
La frase central que no deberíamos olvidar nunca es esta que encontramos en el evangelio de San Marcos: “Esta
es mi sangre, sangre de la alianza, derramada por todos”. El pacto o testamento, o lo que llamamos Antigua
Alianza, lo hizo Moisés derramando sangre de animales como sacrificio de comunión. Y este pacto de Moisés
real y verdadero, es también figura y profecía del Nuevo Testamento. Cristo realizó la Nueva Alianza como mediador entre Dios Padre y los hombres, sus hermanos, ofreciendo como único y eterno Sacerdote, al Padre, su
propio cuerpo al derramar su propia sangre sobre el altar de la cruz. Con este único sacrificio, Cristo consumo
todos los sacrificios del Antiguo Testamento. Además, El nos mando celebrar este único y eterno sacrificio de la
Nueva Alianza que es la santa misa que celebramos nosotros ahora: “Esta es mi sangre —dice Jesucristo—
sangre de la alianza, derramada por todos”. Y el sacerdote en la misa dice las mismas palabras: “sangre de la
Alianza Nueva y eterna, que será derramada por todos vosotros y por todos los hombres para el perdón de los
pecados”. Y cumpliendo otro mandato de Cristo, el sacerdote añade: “Haced esto en conmemoración mía”.
La Eucaristía: Nuestra Relación con Dios
Nosotros, en nuestra vida cristiana, exageramos el aspecto personal de nuestras relaciones con Dios. Algunas
veces hemos oído a algunos hermanos decir: “Yo le rezo a Dios en mi casa; no necesito ir a la iglesia. Porque
Dios está en todas partes”. Dios hizo un pacto con su pueblo a través de Moisés, y el pueblo judío, todavía hoy
se siente un pueblo escogido por este pacto. Pero en Cristo esa alianza tuvo su auténtica realidad, su pleno cumplimiento, y nosotros somos ese pueblo de Dios, pueblo sacerdotal, asamblea santa en quienes se sigue cumpliendo esta alianza, la cual renovamos cada vez que celebramos la eucaristía.
Porque alrededor de nuestro altar que hemos santificado con nuestra oración y nuestra fe, se crea una hermandad
auténtica entre nosotros y se celebra nuestra filiación con el Padre de toda la humanidad. Cada vez que celebramos la misa, celebramos y ratificamos el infinito misterio del amor de Dios a la humanidad: el gran misterio del
Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo. Este es el sentido de la misa de cada domingo y este es el sentido de esta fiesta de
Corpus Cristi.
Perpetuemos la Gracia con Dios
Todos nuestros actos, todas nuestra oraciones, todos nuestros esfuerzos y sufrimientos, y hasta todos los sacramentos de la iglesia y toda la liturgia de la iglesia, en una palabra, toda la vida cristiana y todo lo que tiene sentido auténtico sentido cristiano va encauzado a realizar esta alianza con Dios y a perpetuarla en nosotros que somos iglesia, somos Pueblo de Dios, precisamente gracias a esta alianza.
Así como Moisés al celebrar la Alianza Antigua derramó sangre de animales como sacrificio de comunión, así
también Cristo entregó su Cuerpo y derramó su Sangre en sacrificio de comunión. Esto esta muy claro en San
Juan y San Pablo. San Juan dice: “Mi carne es verdadera comida y mi sangre es verdadera bebida. El que come
mi carne y bebe mi sangre permanece en mí y yo en él”. Y lo contrario: “Si no comen la carne del Hijo del hombre y no beben su sangre no tienen vida en ustedes”. Porque esta alianza —según Pablo— se cumple en plenitud
en nuestra comunión con Cristo.
Reflexión
Que todos permanezcamos en este espíritu y en esta comunión para vivir y para transmitir a todos nuestros hermanos, este testamento de Cristo: la alianza del auténtico amor. Así seremos Pueblo de Reyes, Asamblea Real,
Pueblo Sacerdotal, que alaba a su Señor.

Why should I be anointed? The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick continues the healing ministry of
Jesus by helping those who are in need of spiritual, emotional or physical healing experience the presence of Christ. The sacrament grants the grace of comfort, peace and courage, to face sickness and resist
being tempted by discouragement and despair.
Is there a difference between being healed and being cured? Yes. A healing takes place on the
spiritual level. A healing might include the strength to face what lies ahead and the grace to accept God's
will for our lives. A cure speaks of the physical aspects, and sometimes, through this sacrament, people
are not only healed, they also are cured.
Who should be anointed? Anyone who: Has a serious or chronic illness. Is facing surgery. Is suffering from the debilitating effects of old age.
When should anointing take place? As soon as one becomes seriously ill. If surgery is elective or
planned, before being admitted for the surgery. Before the sick person is unconscious, comatose or in the
last stages of death. Whenever a new condition or surgery arises or the current condition significantly
worsens.
What takes place during the anointing? The priest lays hands on the one who is ill and prays over
him or her. The priest will also anoint the sick person with oil, the ancient symbol for strength and healing.
How can I arrange to be anointed? Anointing is available each weekday morning immediately following the 6:30 and 8:15 Mass. Arrange this by speaking with the priest before Mass. For those who cannot attend Mass, special arrangements can be made by contacting the parish office: (310) 326-3364.

en la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles. Los miembros
de la Oficina de Formación Diaconal estarán allí
para explicarle el papel que el diacono desempaña
en la Iglesia, el programa de formación diaconal,
así como para contestar sus preguntas que usted
pudiera tener. La edad de los varones para aplicar
al programa del diaconada oscila entre los 30 a los
60 años.
Si usted esta casado, la decisión de aplicar al programa o no, ha de ser considerada por los dos, por
