Bill” “Empty Tomb - - Full Church” Like a beginning? ..or, like the end of a long Lent? ..a long Lent that just finished with an engaging but exhausting Holy Week! Now, don‟t say it …”poor Father.” How about the choir this Easter morning … after three days of high liturgy, and singing the last hymn of last night‟s Easter Vigil at 11:00 p.m.! Even a few of the lilies are starting to droop. But even after a „full week‟ we‟re „pulling out all the stops‟ for a joy-filled Easter Sunday celebration. Because …some of those in church this morning, those we might call “C&E Catholics” are looking and longing for something – all those folks need beauty. As the choir looks down from the loft, and I look out from the altar, we see not an empty tomb, but a church full of people. But some of them are empty inside. Some are living in tomb-like darkness and may not know the way into the light. Perhaps there are among us this morning to please their parents or spouses, or maybe because it is Easter after all. It‟s for them that we sing and preach today. Where were they last night? Maybe at the mall or watching TV. They have heard of Christ, but they haven‟t met him. That‟s our humble and glorious task – to make introductions. If you‟re reading this before Mass on this Easter morning, make sure to give them your best handshake and smile! Happy Easter! He is risen! Alleluia! W hen Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. - Jn 20:6-8 LET CHRIST DIRECT YOUR GIVING Give your heart to Christ, and let him direct your giving. In order for you to be what you should as a church member, you must first define and confirm your stewardship obligations and commitments between yourself and the Christ who gave his all for you. Stewardship of time, talent, and possessions is the very heart of Christian discipleship and our way of expressing our love in response to God's amazing grace.
