Mission Statement
Ascension parish is a multi-cultural Catholic community
that provides a sanctuary in which all are invited to
recognize, acknowledge and live God’s presence.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Rite of Welcome
In my ministry in the inner-city parish where I’m pastor, I’m
often overwhelmed by the seemingly unsolvable problems
we face. How to tackle poverty, unemployment,
crime? How to get practical help to folks? How to bring
together those with resources and those with needs? How
to deal with daily frustrations?
In this tough ministry, one of my Franciscan colleagues has
a very helpful strategy for me and our parish community.
He says there’s two ways to do this ministry. One is a way
that stresses people’s needs. This “need-based” approach
can often lead to frustration as we face those
overwhelming problems. A second way is an “assetbased” approach. Everyone has a gift. Every person has a
unique dignity given by God. Everyone is an “asset” in our
community. The poorest person economically may have a
talent or gift not immediately apparent. In this approach,
we’re all in relationship, and in that relationship, love and
service can flow two ways.
Maybe that’s part of what Jesus wants to teach us in
today’s parable of the talents. We’ve all been given gifts
by God. In the parable, praise goes to those who develop
those gifts; hoarding them or burying them--even for
security’s sake--is not an option. In our faith communities
we’re challenged to find ways to discover the gifts each
person has, and to discover how to put them at the
service of the Kingdom.

will be celebrating the Rite of Welcome at the 11:30 Mass

We begin registration for TOYS for TOTS, a Project sponsored
by the US Marines so that all children might have a gift for
Christmas. Registration will run from November 16 through
Decmber 7. For more information or to register your children

Performance of “La Natividad” will
be presented by the Heart of the

Hope for Recovery

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota
is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives
of children and adults with mental illnesses and their families.
Hope for Recovery is a six hour class taught by a trained
family member that provides practical strategies for dealing
with the complexities of mental illness. Please bring a bag
lunch. All classes are free but registration is required.

Como en años pasados, voluntarios van a distribuir
platos de comida gratis para el Día de Acción de
Gracias entre 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. en día jueves, 27 de
noviembre. La cena consiste de pavo, puré de
papas, salsa, relleno, verduras, pan y postre. Favor de

voluntario o para recibir comida.

RITO de BIENVENIDA
Hoy, celebremos el Rito de la Bienvenida para los
adultos que están participando en RICA (Rito de
Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos). Este proceso
les preparará a estos adultos para celebrar sus
sacramentos de iniciación en la iglesia católica. Se
llaman catecúmenos, los que serán bautizados, y
candidatos, los que están preparándose para primera
comunión y/o confirmación. Favor de darles una
bienvenida calurosa por tomar un momento de
presentarse a ellos y guardarlos en sus oraciones.
