Jesus moves a lot in today’s gospel. Mark tells us that Jesus was in the non-Jewish cities of Tyre and
Sidon, along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea (along the top of the map). The Gospel says that Jesus
departs this territory and goes down to the area around the Sea of Galilee, towards the district of the
Decapolis. As you can see on the map, Jesus must have gone to the southeastern side of the Sea of
Galilee, because this is where the district of the Decapolis borders Jewish territory, east of the Jordan
River. While staying in this area, where Jewish territory borders the non-Jewish area of the Decapolis,
Jesus encounters a deaf mute man. As we hear in today’s Gospel, Jesus heals this deaf mute man. The
healing of this deaf mute man is very important and symbolic.
Below, you see a beautiful painting of Christ Healing the Deaf Mute (1650-60) by Philippe de
Champaigne, illustrating today’s miraculous story. Four figures dominate the scene along the
river (probably the Jordan) in the bottom right corner. In the center of the group is the deaf mute
man (dressed in gold and white) kneeling before Jesus. Jesus (dressed in white and blue) puts
his left finger in the man’s mouth and his right finger into his ear, while looking up to heaven.
Two disciples, who had brought the man to Jesus, also stand close. The disciple in green has his
hand on the deaf, mute man’s shoulder, and the disciple in red raises his hands in astonishment
of the miracle. Along the bank of the turning river, we can see the other disciples running in
haste to witness this miracle of Christ.
Why is this miracle important? Most likely, the deaf mute man was not and Israelite. He was
probably a foreigner from the area of the Decapolis. His physical deafness symbolically
represents that he had never heard the word of God, and his physical muteness symbolically
represents that he could not speak of the true God. Jesus performs this miracle on a gentile (i.e.
a non Jew). The Church Fathers teach us that this miracle of Jesus is significant because “again,
the Savior comes to save the Gentiles in the midst of the coasts of the Decapolis.” Jesus comes
to
open the ears of all humanity to
the word of God and to open the
mouth of humanity to speak of
God and give praise to God in the
world.
After over two years of
work, the time for our new church
lights has arrived! Installation of
the new lights will come in two
parts: part one covers lights in the
main body of the church, and part
two covers the lights in the
sanctuary (the altar area). Part one
will begin this Tuesday, following
Labor Day, in which a boom lift
will be utilized to install new LED,
energy efficient lights specially
manufactured to fit into our
already existing fixtures. Daily
Mass will continue to be in the
chapel, but the main church will be
closed during week. There will be
no school Mass this week. The
new lights should be installed by
the weekend. Part two of light
installation above the sanctuary
will be coming soon, but the date
is still not determined at this time. The sanctuary cannot sustain the weight of a boom lift, so installation of the new lights
above the sanctuary will require scaffolding. At this time, we are finalizing the scaffolding needed for the project. When
this is accomplished soon, work crews will build scaffolding around and up the sanctuary, so that the electricians can install
the new LED lights above the sanctuary. The main church will also have to be closed for a few days during the second part
of this project. On another repair note, we will soon begin to replace all the clogged boiler tubes in one boiler because of
bad, improper previous maintenance, as mentioned in previous bulletins. The cost of this tube replacement will be over
$12,000, with money coming from our Building Fund (blue envelopes, our second collection every 3rd Sunday of the month).

A note from a parent of St. Joseph alumni . . .
I often hear St. Joseph School being dismissed
as a choice for a grade school because it doesn’t have
enough “bells and whistles.”
Sometimes bells and whistles just make noise.
St. Joseph School offers that intangible that
makes the education process more than just rote. It
enhances the whole experience for both students and
their parents.
I should know, my children went through St.
Joseph School and went on to superior high schools
and colleges.
My husband and I are grateful for the solid
foundation my children received at St. Joseph School,
and for that intangible that made learning at St. Joseph
an experience my children, my husband and I will
never forget.

Next week we will begin our Family Mass at the 9:30
a.m. Mass, our seventh graders will lead the Mass and
be accompanied by our Choristers. We are excited to
have Mrs. Anna Ray, (Dron), continuing as the director of our Choristers.
The Choristers again will sing at the second and fourth
Sundays of the month at the 9:30 a.m. Mass.
Opening Parent Meeting – We held our Back to
School Night Wednesday evening. While our school is
small the spirit and energy from our school community
is HUGE! I am looking forward to a great school
year.
Science Curriculum- Last year we introduced a new
on-line Science Program using our laptops. We are
hoping to purchase Chrome Books to use for our Science Curriculum and junior-high and use our laptops
for support in our library and other areas of our school
for children to do on-line research, and run our Mathletics and Accelerated Reading Program.
Chromebooks while not being as versatile as a full laptop are half the price and will serve us very well in our
science curriculum and other curriculum plans we have
for the future. Our hope is to raise the funds by the
end of September. Donations to the project are greatly
appreciated.
I invite all of our parishioners to visit our school while
it is in action. Our school hours are 8:00 a.m. until
3:00 p.m. I would love to have the opportunity to
show off our children, faculty and staff.

En el evangelio de hoy, vemos a un Jesús en movimiento. Marcos nos cuenta que Jesús estaba en los territorios no
judíos de Tiro y de Sidón, a lo largo de la costa del Mar Mediterráneo (en la parte superior del mapa). El Evangelio
narra que Jesús se aparto de este territorio y bajo a la zona alrededor del Mar de Galilea, hacia la región de la Decápolis. Como se puede apreciar en el mapa, Jesús debe haber pasado por el lado sureste del Mar de Galilea, porque
aquí es donde el distrito de la Decápolis hace frontera con el territorio judío, al este del río Jordán. Es durante su
estancia en esta zona, donde Jesús se encuentra con un hombre sordomudo. Tal y como escuchamos, Jesús sana a
este hombre. La curación de este hombre sordomudo es muy importante y simbólica.
Debajo, vemos a la hermosa pintura de Cristo curando a un sordomudo (1650-60) de Philippe de Champaigne, que ilustra la milagrosa historia de este evangelio. Cuatro figuras dominan la escena a lo largo del río
(probablemente el Jordán) en la esquina inferior derecha. En medio del grupo el hombre sordomudo, revestido en
oro y blanco, esta arrodillado ante Jesús. Jesús, vestido de blanco y azul, pone el dedo izquierdo en la
boca del hombre y su dedo derecho en su oído, a la vez que dirige su mirada al cielo. Dos de los discípulos, quien habían llevado al sordomudo con Jesús, también se encuentran cerca. El discípulo de verde
tiene su mano sobre el hombro del sordomudo, mientras quel discípulo de rojo levanta sus manos en
asombro de este milagro. A lo largo de la orilla del río, podemos ver a los demás discípulos correr a toda
prisa para presenciar este milagro de Cristo.
¿El porque la importancia a este milagro? Lo más probable es, que este hombre sordomudo no
era israelita. Probablemente era un extranjero de la zona de la Decápolis. Su sordera física simboliza
aquel que nunca había oído La Palabra de Dios, y su mudez física simboliza aquel que no podía hablar
del verdadero Dios. Jesús realiza el milagro a un gentil, es decir, a un no-judío. Los Padres de la Iglesia
nos enseñan que este milagro de Jesús es significativo porque "una vez más, el Salvador viene a salvar a
los gentiles en medio de las costas de la Decápolis." Jesús viene abrir los oídos de toda la humanidad a la
palabra de Dios y abrir la boca de la humanidad para hablar de Dios y alabar a Dios en el mundo.
¡Después de más de dos años de trabajo, ha llegado el tiempo para las luces nuevas luces de la
iglesia! La instalación de las nuevas luces será en dos partes: la primera parte cubrirá las luces en la área
principal de la iglesia, y la segunda parte
abarcara las luces sobre el santuario (el
área del altar). La primera parte da
inicio este martes, tras el día feriado, en
la que se utilizará un ascensor para instalar las nuevas luces LED, luces de alta
eficiencia energética fabricadas especialmente para nuestras instalaciones.
La Misa Diaria seguirá siendo en la
capilla, pero la iglesia principal estará
cerrada durante la semana. No habrá
misa para los estudiantes de la escuela
esta semana. Se espera que las nuevas
luces estarán instaladas para el fin de
semana. La segunda parte de la instalación de la luces (luces sobre el santuario) será muy pronto, pero aun no se a
determinado la fecha. El santuario no
puede sostener el peso de un ascensor,
por lo cual se necesitara de la instalación de las nuevas luces sobre el santuario requerirá andamiaje. En este momento, estamos finalizando el andamiaje necesario para el proyecto. En cuanto
esto este listo, los equipos de trabajo
pondrán el andamiaje alrededor y hasta
el santuario, para que los electricistas
pueden instalar las nuevas luce sobre el
santuario. La iglesia estará cerrada temporalmente durante unos días durante esta segunda parte del proyecto.
Debo señalar que se aproxima otra reparación. Pronto comenzaremos a remplazar los tubos tapados de una de la calderas. Estos se taparon debido al mal e inadecuada mantenimiento de tiempos anteriores, tal y como se a mencionado en los boletines anteriores. El costo de
remplazo de estos tubos será de más de $12,000, el cual saldrá del Fondo de Construcción (los sobres azules de nuestra segunda colecta
cada 3er domingo del mes).

cuidado maternal, y a San José, ruega por nosotros.

W dzisiejszym czytaniu Jezus sporo się przemieszcza. Z Ewangelii według św. Marka dowiadujemy się,
że Pan przebywał w Tyrze i Sydonie na wybrzeżu Morza Śródziemnego (górna część mapy). Były to
miasta nie-Żydów. Następnie, udaje się On do Dekapolu, w okolicach Jeziora Genezaret. Tutaj, na
wschód od rzeki Jordan, Dekapol graniczy z terenami żydowskimi. Według Ewangelii, Jezus w tym
miejscu spotyka głuchoniemego mężczyznę, którego uzdrawia. Owe zdarzenie ma głębokie znaczenie
symboliczne.
Piękną ilustracją dzisiejszego cudu jest ten obraz pędzla Philippe’a de Champaigne, zatytułowany:
„Chrystus uzdrawiający głuchoniemego” (lata 1650-1660). W prawym dolnym rogu na pierwszym
planie widać cztery postacie, stojące nad brzegiem rzeki (być może rzeki Jordan). Wśród czterech osób
jest głuchoniemy. Ubrany w złoto i biel klęczy przed Mesjaszem. Jezus ubrany w biel i błękit
kładzie palec jednej ręki do ust głuchoniemego, a palec drugiej ręki do jego ucha. Czyniąc to,
spogląda w niebo. Nieopodal widzimy dwóch uczniów Jezusa, którzy przyprowadzili tu
głuchoniemego. Uczeń odziany w zielone szaty trzyma dłoń na ramieniu głuchoniemego; drugi
uczeń, odziany w czerwień, widząc dokonujący się cud unosi ręce w zachwycie. Nieco dalej nad
brzegiem rzeki widzimy pozostałych uczniów. Biegną, aby z bliska przyjrzeć się temu, co
zaszło.
Dlaczego owy cud jest tak ważny? Głuchoniemy mężczyzna najprawdopodobniej nie był Żydem
– raczej mieszkańcem Dekapolu. Jego choroba jest symboliczną oznaką tego, że nigdy
wcześniej nie słyszał on Słowa Bożego ani nie mógł świadczyć o Prawdziwym Bogu. Chrystus
dokonuje tego cudu na „poganinie” (w tym wypadku, na kimś, kto nie jest Żydem). Ojcowie
wczesnego Kościoła w komentarzach do tego wydarzenia nauczają, iż Zbawiciel po raz kolejny
przyszedł uratować pogan na terenach Dekapolu. Jezus przyszedł po to, aby otworzyć uszy i
usta całej ludzkości, ażeby mogła słuchać Słowa Bożego i głosić Jego chwałę na całym świecie.
Zajęło
nam to ponad dwa lata, ale nareszcie
nadszedł czas na instalację nowego
oświetlenia w kościele! Będzie to
proces dwuetapowy. Etap pierwszy
będzie polegać na instalacji
oświetlenia w samym kościele; etap
drugi obejmie pracę w sanktuarium
(przestrzeni wokół ołtarza).
Pierwszy etap prac rozpoczniemy
we wtorek, zaraz po Święcie Labor
Day. Wykorzystując podnośnik
hydrauliczny, zamontujemy nowe
żarówki LEDowe, specjalnie
dopasowane do istniejących już
oprawek. Codzienne nabożeństwa
nadal będą odprawiane w kaplicy,
ale sam kościół będzie w tygodniu
zamknięty. Prace montażowe w
kościele powinny się zakończyć do
weekendu. Drugi etap instalacji
rozpocznie się niedługo po
pierwszym, ale na razie nie mamy
jeszcze ustalonej daty. W przestrzeni
ołtarzowej będziemy musieli
pracować na rusztowaniach –
podłoga w tamtym miejscu nie
wytrzyma bowiem ciężaru
podnośnika hydraulicznego. Obecnie kończymy rozmowy dotyczące budowy rusztowania. Ekipy remontowe wzniosą
rusztowania nad ołtarzem i wokół niego, aby można było tam wkręcić nowe żarówki. W czasie tych prac kościół będzie
zamknięty przez parę dni. Jak wspominałem w poprzednich biuletynach, nastąpi również wymiana wszystkich rur w jednym
z naszych boilerów. Wskutek złej konserwacji i zaniedbań, wszystkie rury są zardzewiałe i zatkane. Koszt ich wymiany to
ponad $12,000. Pieniądze na ten cel pochodzić będą z tutejszego Funduszu Budowlanego (niebieskie koperty, druga zbiórka
w każdą III niedzielę miesiąca). Życzę wszystkim błogosławionego Święta Labor Day! Święta Maryjo Rozwiązująca Węzły,
