Fourth Sunday of Easter April 17, 2016 Page 2 4th Sunday of Easter (Cycle C) Pastor’s Corner This Sunday of Easter is born of Christ’s resurrection and brings its own refreshing spiritual strength. It is full of life, just as the flowers and the soil of our various countries. It comes at the end of the work week to tell us that hope is not ended and is offered in abundance so that we may start the week anew. It resounds in our ears while we walk through this apathetic city, made up of the wanderers who rush to their jobs, of people ill-fed and malnourished, of young people striving to better their lot in life and improve on their parents’ achievements. The Easter message reaches all with the verdant hope of spring, Christ, who tells us: “be not afraid, I am with you always, until the end of time”. I want to extend a very special welcome to Cardinal Wuerl, who is visiting us from Washington, D.C. It is a privilege to have you here with us and we hope your stay is pleasant. I also take this opportunity to congratulate all the women who complete the Emmaus retreat today, that God’s grace may be poured abundantly on them. Federico 4o. P. Fourth Sunday of Easter Page 7 The Jubilee of Mercy El Jubileo de la Misericordia How many uncertain and painful situations there are in the world today! How many are the wounds borne by the flesh of those who have no voice because their cry is muffled and drowned out by the indifference of the rich! During this Jubilee, the Church will be called even more to heal these wounds, to assuage them with the oil of consolation, to bind them with mercy and cure them with solidarity and vigilant care. Let us not fall into humiliating indifference or a monotonous routine that prevents us from discovering what is new! Let us ward off destructive cynicism! Let us open our eyes and see the misery of the world, the wounds of our brothers and sisters who are denied their dignity, and let us recognize that we are compelled to heed their cry for help! SACRIFICIAL GIVING COLLECTION LAST WEEK Colecta de la semana pasada $17,889.21 Thank you for your generosity! ¡Gracias por su generosidad Fourth Sunday of Easter The students in sixth grade combined their knowledge of art and science to create erupting volcanoes. They took what they had learned about Volcanoes and created models out of plaster and combined them with different elements which helped them visualize what a real volcanic eruption is like. The overflowing magma that they witnessed was a mixture of vinegar and baking soda; when mixed together, they react chemically to create carbon dioxide gas. The gas bubbles build up inside the bottle and force the liquid out of the bottle. It was an explosive moment. Page 9 Page 10 St. Hugh Saint Hugh Students will be holding a “Backpack Kit for Mindo” drive from April 8th – 28th. We are teaming up with Mindo Futures to collect basic educational and personal supplies for the children in Mindo, Ecuador who live at the UEFTE School. These children have been left to live in the school because they do not have family or come from extreme poverty and their families cannot afford to raise them. Our mission and goal is to ensure that these children are afforded the same opportunity as our own students. We will be collecting backpacks with pencils, pens, glue sticks, scissors, and towels. With the help of our Saint Hugh families, we can provide the children in Ecuador with some tools and necessities that will make living much better for them. If you would like more information on how you can help us with this drive, please contact the school at (305) 448-5602.
