Large Parking Lot Closure for SPRINGFEST 2014
Our large parking lot (southeast corner of Raymond & Chestnut) will be closed from Monday, May 12 through Tuesday, May
20, 2014 for our Saint Andrew Parish and School Fiesta,
SPRINGFEST 2014.
Parking for weekend Masses (May 17 & 18) will be available in
the Operating Engineers Parking Structure (entrance on Chestnut Street). Please use available street parking for weekday
Masses.

HOLY BURIAL
St. Andrew Church will once again celebrate the Holy Burial/Santo Entierro, on Good Friday, April 18, a tradition which started in 1582 in
Seville, Spain. Thousands of villagers descended on the town on Good
Friday, but the crowds could not fit inside the church, and therefore
overflowed into the plaza. After the formal liturgy, which they heard
through open windows, the procession went forth into the streets, and everyone could walk in the
“funeral” of the LORD.
SEVEN LAST WORDS
The “Seven Last Word” of Jesus will be presented by Fr. Michael Barrett, our Weekend Presider.
GOOD FRIDAY SPECIAL MUSIC
The Sacred Cantata, titled "The Seven Last Words of Christ", with music by Theodore Dubois, will be
performed by the St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church Adult Choir under the direction of Mrs. Marlene
Puccinelli, as part of the Good Friday Services, April 18.
THE ATTITUDE OF CHRIST JESUS
The Lenten cycle brings us to this “mixed” Sunday of palm branches and painful suffering. Our liturgy
opens by recalling Jesus’ triumphant entry along the main road into Jerusalem, then moves quickly to
the back streets of betrayal and humiliation, the courtyards of torture and abandonment, the hill of execution. Isaiah’s strange and gripping “Song of the Servant of God” was to become the song of Jesus. It
is the song of one who strides forward consistently in the face of criticism, even scorn: “I have not rebelled, have not turned back.” It is to become our song, as faithful followers of Jesus Christ.How are we
to react when we hear the account of the passion and death of the Lord? Paul tells us that our attitude
must be Christ’s, who “emptied himself, taking the form of a slave.” We pray that we may absorb the

Estaremos celebrando el Santo Entierro, quien
tuvo su comienzo en 1582 en Sevilla, España. Miles de pueblanos descendieron sobre
el pueblo ese Viernes Santo, pero no hubo
cupo para todos así es que muchos de ellos
se fueron a la plaza a escuchar la liturgia a
través de las ventas abiertas. Después, todos
se fueron en una procesión por las callas en donde todos procesaron
en el “funeral” de nuestro Señor.
