My dear parishioners,
A young lady I know was recently hospitalized for a
serious condition. At first, the doctors were not sure what was
wrong and had a hard time isolating the issue. It got to the
point that it appeared to be life threatening. Along with many
people wishing her well, offering their prayers and support,
there were others who did the opposite. They might have
thought that they were being helpful, maybe they thought
they were being encouraging. This young lady received
emails and comments saying things like "maybe this happened to you because you're so overweight; now would be a
good time for you to lose weight; you really need to work on
keeping yourself healthy." These messages weren't from
close friends or confidants, they were from parishioners in
her parish. She is in the hospital, worrying if she is going to
live or not and people sent messages like that.
Another young lady I know serves as a cantor in
another parish. She periodically sends me messages telling
me what people say to her after Mass. She hears comments
like "isn't it about time you lost that baby fat?; are you pregnant again, it looks like it?; you should do something about
your hair, it doesn't look right; etc." It boggles my mind that
this lady has just led her community in worship of God, these
people have just received Jesus in Holy Communion and instead of saying "thank you" or "the music was lovely today,"
they felt it was important to make derogatory comments
about her appearance. At times she wants to quit serving the
Lord because she cries after Mass because of the hurtful
things said to her.
I share these examples, to continue the theme of my
letter last week. If we want to bring peace and healing in the
world, we have to start with ourselves. When we tear people
down instead of building them up, we bring pain and hate
into the world. When our children hear us constantly saying
what is wrong with another person, they pick that up from us.
I am not advocating a Pollyanna way of talking to people, but
to speak with true Christian charity. There are ways to show
concern without sounding like you are belittling someone.
We have all been hurt by uncharitable comments. Some have
caused deep wounds, some which we have carried since
childhood. That pain then causes us to lash out on others, by
insulting them, seeing only what is wrong. I ask that you
come to our healing prayer service this coming Wednesday,
June 29 at 7 pm. We will pray for peace throughout the
world, within our country, within our parish, and within our
families. We will pray for the victims and the families of
those killed in Orlando and in other acts of terrorism and violence. We will pray for healing within our own hearts so that
Jesus may reign and we can bring his peace to the world

Mis Queridos feligreses,
Conozco una joven que recientemente estaba hospitalizada con una condición seria. Al principio, los doctores no estaban seguros que tenía y tuvieron dificultad poner
en cuarentena el problema. Llego al punto que parecía amenazar su vida. Junto con muchas personas deseándole bien,
ofreciéndole oraciones y apoyo, había otros que hicieron lo
contrario. Ellos pensarían que le estaban ayudando, talvez
pensaron que la estaban animando. Esta joven recibió correo electrónicos y comentarios diciéndole cosas como
“talvez esto te está pasando porque tienes sobrepeso; ahora
sería bueno para que pierdas peso; realmente necesitas trabajar en mantenerte saludable.” Estos mensajes no eran de
parte de amigos cercanos o confidentes; eran de feligreses
de su parroquia. Ella está en el hospital, preocupándose si
va a vivir o no y hay gente mandándole mensajes como
esos.
Otra joven que conozco sirve cantando en otra
parroquia. Ella de vez en cuando me envía mensajes diciéndome lo que la gente dice de ella después de la Misa. ¿Ella
escucha comentarios como “apoco no es hora de que pierda
esos rollitos de bebe? ¿Estas embarazada otra vez, porque
parece? Deberías de hacer algo con tu cabello, no se ve
bien; etc.” Me pasma la mente que esta señora acaba de
guiar a su comunidad en alabanza a Dios, estas personas
acaban de recibir a Jesús en la Santa Comunión y en vez de
decir “gracias” o “la música estaba bonita hoy,” ellos sintieron importante hacer comentarios despectivos sobre su apariencia. Hay veces que ella quiere renunciar servir al Señor
porque ella llora después de Misa por las cosas dolorosas
que le dicen.
Yo comparto estos ejemplos, para continuar el
tema de mi carta de la semana pasada. Si queremos paz y
sanación en el mundo, tendríamos que comenzar con nosotros. Cuando lastimamos a la gente en vez de edificarlos,
traemos dolor y odio en el mundo. Cuando nuestros hijos
nos escuchan constantemente hablar mal de otras personas,
ellos aprenden de eso. No estoy abogando por una forma
Pollyanna de hablar con la gente, sino para hablar con verdadera caridad cristiana. Hay formas de demostrar preocupación sin parecer que estas menospreciando a alguien.
Todos hemos sido lastimados por comentarios insensibles.
Algunos nos han causado heridas profundas, algunos hemos
cargado algunos desde la niñez. Ese dolor después causa
que descarguemos contra otros, insultándolos, y ver solo lo
malo. Les pido que vengan a nuestro servicio de sanación
este miércoles, 29 de junio a las 7pm. Oraremos por paz
para el mundo, dentro nuestro país, dentro nuestra parroquia, y dentro nuestras familias. Oraremos por las víctimas
y familias de aquellos asesinados en Orlando y de otros
actos de terrorismo y violencia. Oraremos por la sanación
dentro nuestros propios corazones para que Jesús pueda
reinar y nosotros podamos llevar paz en este mundo.

Friendly Reminders
Welcome Fr. James Varghese CMI
Fr. James Varghese is originally from India
and belongs to the community Carmelites of
Mary Immaculate. He is currently studying in
Rome and will be with us for the summer. He
will arrive Monday, June 27 and stay until the
middle of September. This is Fr. James’ first time to the United
States. His community serves in other parts of our diocese.
Please welcome him and make him feel at home.
Traditional Latin Mass
To the glory and honor of God in thanksgiving for his
ordination to the priesthood, Fr. Evans Julce will offer the
extraordinary form of the Mass (the traditional Latin
Mass) on Monday, June 27th at 7:30PM. All are warmly
invited to assist. Booklets in English, Spanish, and Latin
will be provided.
Healing Service
I would like to invite you to a healing service on the feast day
of Saints Peter and Paul, Wednesday, June 29 at 7 pm in our
church. We already have exposition all day on that day, so we
would continue to pray before our Eucharistic Lord and seek
his mercy, calling on the intercession of those great saints to
bring healing to our parish, our city, our country and our world
and show that love triumphs over hate. Christus vincit! Christus
regnat! Christus imperat! Christ conquers! Christ rules! Christ
commands!
Flower Baskets
Would you like to keep our altar beautiful
during the summer? How about donating a
flower basket for the week? Each basket is
$75 and can be donated in memory of a
loved one or given in thanksgiving. Donations received by Monday of each week will
have the memorial mentioned in the bulletin.
Bus Pilgrimage to the Holy Doors
As Pope Francis has declared this the year of Mercy,
Brooklyn has established Holy Doors at six churches
throughout the diocese. You have read in the Tablet and
Nuestra Voz that other parishes have visited one or some of
the Holy Doors. Now is your chance to visit all six in one
day. The comfortable coach bus will depart the parish on
Saturday July 23rd @ 6:30AM and return at approximately
9 PM. The bus ticket cost is $40 for adults and $20 for
youths 6 -16 and free for children 5 or younger
accompanied by an adult or older sibling. Bus tickets are on
sale at the rectory starting Sunday.
Sr. Mary Conroy’s Food Pantry and Outreach
is sponsoring a raffle for JetBlue tickets to anywhere
JetBlue flies: almost 100 domestic and international
destinations! Two sets of a pair of tickets (4 in total)
will be raffled on Monday, September 19th after the
12Noon Mass. Raffle chances go on sale at the rectory
this weekend for $20/chance. Don’t miss this
opportunity.

Daily Mass
A reminder that starting Memorial Day, May 30, we will not have
the noon daily Mass (Monday – Friday) until after Labor Day.
This does not affect the 12 noon Mass on Sundays. We have many
open Mass intentions for the rest of the year, therefore the Mass
book for 2017 will not be opened until September.
Religious Education
The Office will be closed during the month of July.
Registration for Religious Education classes for the
2016/2017 year will take place in the Religious Education
Office at the following times:
Wednesday, June 29TH between the hours of
3:00 pm and 7:00 pm
Sunday, June 26TH between the hours of
12 noon and 3:00 pm
You must be a registered parishioner of this parish.
Child(ren) must be present to register. Along with Baptism
certificates.

El Padre James Varghese es originario de la
India y pertenece a la comunidad de las
Carmelitas de María Inmaculada.
Actualmente está estudiando en Roma y
estará con nosotros para este verano. El
llegará el lunes, 27 de junio y se quedará hasta mediado
de septiembre. Esta es la primera vez que el Padre James

Misa Tradicional en latín
Para la gloria y el honor de Dios en acción de gracias por
su ordenación sacerdotal, el P. Evans Julce ofrecerá la

Peregrinación en autobús a las Puertas Santas
El Papa Francisco ha declarado este año de la Misericordia.
Brooklyn estableció las Puertas Santas en seis iglesias de la
diócesis. Han leído en Nuestra Voz y en el Tablet que otras
parroquias han visitado una o algunas de las Puertas Santas.
Ahora es su oportunidad de visitar los seis en un día. Un
autobús cómodo partirá de la parroquia el sábado, 23 de Julio a
las 6:30 AM y regresará aproximadamente a las 9 PM. El costo
del tiquete de autobús es de $40 para adultos y $20 para
jóvenes de 6 -16 y gratuito para los niños de 5 años o menos y
acompañados por un adulto o un hermano mayor. Los tiquetes
de autobús están a la venta en la rectoría a partir de este
domingo.
La Despensa de Alimentos de Sor Mary Conroy
patrocinará un sorteo de entradas JetBlue para viajar en

del Trabajo. Esto NO afectará la Misa de los domingos. Tenemos muchas Misa abiertas para intenciones para el resto de este año, así que el
libro de Misas para el 2017 no se abrirá si no hasta septiembre.
