A Letter from Our Pastor
Movie Ratings by the Church
Every so often, people ask me
if the Church still has a system
to rate movies. We are familiar
with past experiences with
"C" (Condemned) movies. In fact, the Church -actually the US Council of Catholic Bishops -- does
maintain the rating system. Unlike the Movie
Ratings which you see in ads, the church's system
is based on scriptural values, church teaching and
moral development.
The system works this way:
The first rating is A-I. These are movies free from
objectionable content, good for the whole
family. Present examples are Alvin & the
Chipmunks: The Road Chip and Norm of the
North.
The next rating is A-II. These are for films most
appropriate for anyone over the age of 13, but still
respectable of scriptural values. Examples of these
are Brooklyn and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The A-III rating is for movies generally not
acceptable for teens but appropriate for most
adults. Sometimes on this rating an addendum is
added: "possibly acceptable for older teens".
Examples here are Concussion, Creed and Joy.
The more adult rating of L is for films with
problematic content which some adults may find
troubling. The L refers to "limited adult content".
Sometimes used for quality films with challenging
material, it also goes against scriptural teaching
regarding violence, sexual content and language.
Examples here are Daddy's Home, Legend and
The Revenant.
Lastly, there is the O rating for "morally
offensive”. This applies to films which deny the
existence of God, ridicule religious faith or are
otherwise sacrilegious. They directly contradict
scriptural values and generally are seen to have
no artistic value. I will not give examples of these
O-rated films!
If you would like to do your own research, consult
the catholicnews.com website and look for the
movie reviews. All new releases are reviewed and
rated by the Catholic Bishops’ Council and made
available to you as a service.
CHANGES TO THE CRY ROOM
There have been some changes to our parish cry
room. We have long wanted to make the cry room
more "church-like" and a true part of the church,
rather than a separated room. Therefore, a new
television has been added (the room is visually
inaccessible to the church), pews have replaced
the chairs, and a wall has been constructed to
separate it from the elevator area. The new door
(behind the altar/tabernacle) allows the room to be
locked when not in use. This will keep the room
cleaner and more secure. Thanks for your support
in keeping our church safe and secure.

Important Message from the Archdiocese of Denver
On Wednesday, two identical bills that aim to make physician-assisted suicide legal in Colorado were
introduced in the State Senate and House — Senate Bill 25 and House Bill 1054. These bills would allow
Colorado residents diagnosed as terminally ill access to “life-ending” drugs if a doctor determines them to
be mentally competent to make the decision, and if two other doctors agree the patient is within six months
of dying.
A law allowing physician-assisted suicide would further entrench a culture of death in our laws here in
Colorado, demean the lives of vulnerable patients — exposing them to exploitation — and corrupt the
medical profession, whose ethical code calls on physicians to serve life and never to kill.

The HeartBeat is the School’s weekly electronic
newsletter. SHJ Principal Roonie Leittem-Murrell
offered these observations in her HeartBeat column
right before the Martin Luther King holiday. “Pope
Francis announced in November that this year is the
Jubilee Year of Mercy. Perhaps we should try this year
to be more merciful by reflecting on our compassion
and treatment of our environment and our fellow man.
Our salvation depends on mercy. It is our duty to take
care of the marginalized and the disadvantaged.
Maybe we could strive to be more ‘King’ like.
“The civility rule this week is ‘Respect Other People’s
Time’ and we will do this when we learn to value other
people’s time as much as our own. This is another
way to show mercy and respect.”

New Office Hours: Starting Monday, January 25, the
Parish Office will have new hours. The Office will open at 8
am During the lunch hour, 12 to1 pm the office will be
closed. This will allow the Parish Center staff to run
errands, eat lunch, etc. The Parish Office will then close
at 4 pm. Please plan accordingly.

CLASIFICACION DE PELICULAS POR LA IGLESIA

De vez en cuando, la gente me pregunta si la Iglesia todavía tiene el sistema para clasificar las
películas. Estamos familiarizados con las experiencias del pasado con (Condenado) películas "C". De
hecho, la Iglesia, en realidad, el Consejo de Obispos Católicos hace mantener el sistema de calificación. A
diferencia de las clasificaciones de películas que se ven en los anuncios, el sistema de la iglesia se basa en
los valores de las escrituras, enseñanzas de la Iglesia y el desarrollo moral.
El sistema funciona como tal. La primera calificación es A-I. Estas son las películas libres de
contenido desagradable, bueno para toda la familia. Ejemplos actuales son: Alvin y las ardillas Chip Road
y Norma del Norte. La siguiente calificación es A-II. Estas son las películas más apropiadas para
cualquier persona mayor de 13 años, pero todavía respetables de los valores bíblicos. Ejemplos aquí son:
Brooklyn, Guerra de las Galaxias.
La calificación III generalmente no es aceptable para los adolescentes, pero apropiado para la
mayoría de los adultos. A veces en esta calificación se añade un apéndice: "posiblemente aceptable para
los adolescentes mayores". Ejemplos aquí son: concusión, Credo y Alegría. Cuanto más calificación
adulta de L es para las películas con contenido problemático que algunos adultos pueden encontrar
preocupante. A veces se utiliza para el cine de calidad con material de desafiar, sino que también va en
contra de la enseñanza bíblica sobre la violencia, contenido sexual y lenguaje. Ejemplos aquí son: El
hogar del papá, la leyenda y The Revenant. La L se refiere al "contenido adulto limitado".
Por último, está la calificación de O para "moralmente ofensiva. Esto se aplica a las películas que
niegan la existencia de Dios, el ridículo la fe religiosa o son de otra manera sacrílega. El se oponen
directamente a los valores bíblicos y por lo general se ve que no tienen ningún valor artístico. No voy a
dar ejemplos de estas películas Clasificadas O!

CAMBIOS EN CUARTO (CONTRA SONIDOS) DE LOS NINOS
Ha habido algunos cambios en nuestro cuarto de los niños. Hemos querido hacer este cambio durante
mucho tiempo y hacer el cuarto de los niños “como-iglesia” y una verdadera parte de la iglesia, en lugar
de una habitación separada. Por lo tanto, se ha añadido una nueva televisión (la sala es visualmente
inaccesibles a la iglesia), bancas han sustituido a las sillas, y una pared se ha construido para separarlo de
la zona del ascensor. La nueva puerta (detrás del altar / tabernáculo) permite a la habitación que se

vista a los ciegos, para dar la libertad a los oprimidos y proclamar un año de gracia del Señor. Enrollando el
volumen lo devolvió al ministro, y se sentó. En la sinagoga todos los ojos estaban fijos en él. Comenzó, pues, a
decirles:

Santo de la Semana: San Francisco de Sales. Nació en el castillo de Sales,
en Saboya, el 21 de agosto de 1567. Fue bautizado al día a siguiente en la
Iglesia de Thorens, con el nombre de Francisco Buenaventura. De niño
Francisco fue muy delicado de salud ya que nació prematuro; pero gracias al
cuidado que recibía, se pudo recuperar y fortalecerse con los año. La madre
de Fransciso fue Francisca de Boisy una mujer sumamente amable y
profundamente piadosa.
San Francisco fue beatificado por el Papa Alejandro VII en el 1661, y el mismo Papa lo canonizó en el 1665, a los 43
años de su muerte. En el 1878 el Papa Pío IX, considerando que los tres libros famosos del santo: "Las
controversias" (contra los protestantes); La Introducción a la Vida Devota" (o Filotea) y El Tratado del Amor de Dios (o
Teótimo), tanto como la colección de sus sermones, son verdaderos tesoros de sabiduría, declaró a San Francisco de
Sales "Doctor de la Iglesia", siendo llamado "El Doctor de la amabilidad"
