“Make love your aim.” - 1 Corinthians 14:1 “Love never ends. ”

T
his week, John's Gospel gives us the
"Introduction" of the Christ, the Divine Logos of God, to the world. This Christ, according to John is God from God, Light from Light, as
we read in the introduction to the Gospel, in the first 18
verses of Chapter 1. Then came the baptism, and now, in
Chapter 2, the Christ is introduced to the world. We
don't know if John wants to teach "history" by remembering something the other Gospel writers do not remember, OR if he is making a theological statement
about the Christ, but he has Jesus open his ministry in a
way that no other writer remembers--at a wedding. Let's
think about that. What is there about a wedding that
would symbolize God's relationship with humanity?
This is an old theme, which we see foreshadowed in the
first reading--there, we are told God will marry Zion,
then the marriage is extended to all Jerusalem, then to
the entire land. Is John's Gospel extending it to all humanity? Just as with any marriage, it's never a "basket of
warm puppies!" So, how's YOUR relationship with your
Divine Spouse, today? Are you on speaking terms? Is
God in the dog house? Are you giving Him the cold
shoulder? This year (Cycle C) will be an examination of
the ramifications of discipleship. Here, we begin, noting
that we may be disciples, but really, we are much, much
closer than a disciple, at least in God's eyes. Just remember, as the year unfolds with all its joy and pain,
that no matter what, YOU ARE LOVED, and if you
ever doubt how much, look at the crucifix!

E
n esta semana, el Evangelio de Juan nos da
una “introducción” al Cristo, el Logos Divino de Dios, a este mundo. Este Cristo, de
acuerdo a Juan, es Dios de parte de Dios, Luz de Luz,
como leemos en la introducción al Evangelio, en los primeros 18 versos del primer capítulo. Luego vino el bautismo, y ahora, en el capítulo 2, el Cristo es introducido al
mundo. No sabemos si Juan quiere enseñar “historia”
recordando algo que los otros evangelistas no recuerdan,
o si él está haciendo una declaración teológica de Cristo,
pero escribe a Jesús inició su ministerio de una manera
que ningún otro escritor recuerda— en una boda. Pensemos sobre esto. ¿Qué hay en una boda que simbolizaría
la relación de Dios con la humanidad? Éste es un tema
antiguo, del cual se anuncia en la primera lectura– donde
se nos dice que Dios se casará con Sión, luego el matrimonio se extiende a toda Jerusalén, luego a toda la tierra.
¿Será que el Evangelio de Juan lo está extendiendo a toda
la humanidad? Así como cualquier otro matrimonio,
¡nunca es una “canasta con pan dulce recién sacado del
horno!” Entonces, ¿cómo está TU relación con tu Divino
Esposo el día de hoy? ¿Están en comunicación? ¿Está
Dios fuera de la casa? ¿Le estás dando el hombro frío?
Este año (Ciclo C) será un examen de la repercusión del
discipulado. Aquí, empezamos a darnos cuenta que podemos ser discípulos, por lo menos en los ojos de Dios.
Sólo recuerda, al empezar el año con toda su alegría y
dolor, que no importa lo que sea, TÚ ERES AMADO
(A), y si alguna vez dudas cuánto, ¡mira al crucifijo!

went to the Rose Parade this year and the
flowers just seemed to sparkle more than
other years. The colors were brilliant and
the shades were many. It was hard to say which was
more beautiful than another. Yet they were all flowers,
made by God to beautify our world.

The readings speak of how we have different gifts but
the same spirit. We are one in Christ but have diverse
gifts. We are like the flowers on a float. Each brings its
own shade of beauty to make the float sparkle and
shine. St. Paul says that God rejoices in each of us
when we live the life of the Spirit given to us. Take
time this week and enjoy the variety of flowers you see
sitting in the pews on Sat. or Sunday. Enjoy the uniqueness of each and thank God for the beautiful
garden He has given us here at St. Agatha's.
