MONICA CATHOLIC CHURCH ARCHDIOCESE OF GALVESTON - HOUSTON PAGE 5 From the Pastor’s Desk: This weekend, we celebrate Jesus Christ as the King of the universe and the one who “loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.” He is the “Alpha” and the “Omega,” the “faithful witness” who came into the world “to testify to the truth.” When we listen to his voice, we show that we belong to this kingdom of truth which is also a kingdom of justice and peace. In today’s world of terrorism and wars, truth and justice, love and peace, are the virtues we need. These virtues can lead us to avoid pride, bitter hatred and self-destruction. It makes us members of God’s kingdom, ready to meet with Jesus when he comes again. This week, reflect on the life of Jesus, the king who came to serve, who washed his disciples’ feet, fed the hungry, healed and raised people from the dead. In what ways can you continue this mission of love in your secular and faith communities? Advent season begins next Sunday, November 29, 2015. The readings for the Sunday Cycle will be from Year C, while the readings for the Weekday will be from Cycle II (Year B). Next Liturgical Year is declared the Year of Mercy by the Holy Father, Pope Francis. It begins on December 8, 2015, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, and ends on November 20, 2016. On Thanksgiving Day, November 26th, Mass will be at 9 am (English), and 1:30 pm (Spanish). Church offices are closed that day and the following day, Friday 27th. Please, continue to pray for our sick. God bless you today and every day. Fr. John Ayang, SOLT Del Escritorio del Pastor: Padre John Ayang. MONICA CATHOLIC CHURCH ARCHDIOCESE OF GALVESTON - HOUSTON PAGE 7 Sunday Spiritual Thoughts: Today is the last Sunday of our liturgical year, and Saint John presents his gospel story of the passion narrative of Jesus by presenting him on trial by Pilate. While Jesus is the one supposed to be on trial, surprisingly Pilate is the one on the spot on trial. Pilate must decide on his personal stand towards Jesus. Unwittingly, Pilate says, “So, then you are the king?” Pilate does not come up completely in affirming by faith that Jesus is indeed King. Are you like Pilate? Have you come up completely by faith that Jesus is indeed King? Do you have that faith already that Jesus is King? The second reading tells us that Jesus is a king and the faithful witness; he has testified before us his faithfulness to the Father. Jesus has served us by the Father’s love and forgiveness to give us hope towards the resurrection of life, which he himself has won for us all in eternity. Love and forgiveness is the goal and the means to spread out the kingship of Christ. Is he not truly the King of our lives? Must we not be ruled by his love and forgiveness? How often have we spread out the message of love of the kingship of Christ? Prophet Daniel tells us of that King who has come in our midst and served us distinctively from the many kings who served in the ancient times in the land; Jesus’ kingdom is forever and is not flitting to all people and nations who come to God himself, for its foundation is based in God’s love and forgiveness. Now, who is your King in life? Fr.
