Mass and Confessions Schedule
San Pablo Catholic Church 550 122nd Street - Ocean, Marathon, FL 33050 Mile Marker 53.5 Telephone: (305) 289-0636 Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 5, 2016 HOPE AND LIFE Today’s readings tell the story of two widows. The first reading relates the plight of the widow with whom the prophet Elijah stayed; the Gospel tells about the widow of Nain. In each story, the widow’s only son had died. For people who lived in those cultures, the son was the only support of a widow, and the carrying on of the family name by the son was equal to immortality. A widow whose only son has died could lose all hope. Elijah and Jesus are the restorers of hope; they bring the sons back to life. Saint Paul was metaphorically raised from the dead when he experienced the conversion and call from God that he describes in today’s second reading. What are Christians called to do today? We may not be able to raise the dead, but perhaps we can rekindle hope for a single parent. We may not be able to convert a persecutor like Paul, but if we speak the gospel openly and gently with our lives, we might touch a life with the Mass and Confessions Schedule Weekend Masses: Regular Schedule Saturday : 5:30 PM Sunday: 8:00 AM ,11:00 AM & 1:30 PM (SP) Confessions: Saturdays at 3:00 –4:00 PM Daily Mass: Monday through Friday At 8:00 AM Call the Office for: Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, Communion to the Sick, Anointing and Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Pastor: Rev. Popes Corner Amoris laetitia Ques on/Answers *8. One of the biggest concerns of many couples is spacing births, yet it’s not a major subject in AL. Why not? AL actually deals with this subject in several different sections, including nn. 42, 68, 82 and 222. While noting that greater emphasis has to be given to the fact that children are a gift from God and a joy for parents, it also cites Humanae Vitae, stressing that spouses be aware of their obligations concerning responsible parenthood. (AL 68) Moreover, a decision about the spacing of births “takes place as the result of a consensual dialogue between the spouses.” (AL 222) AL cites the Second Vatican Council in this regard, emphasizing the importance of the formation of conscience, where each person is alone with God. The exhortation also encourages natural methods of regulating births, since they respect the bodies and indeed the “whole person” of the spouses. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK Sylvia Puto, Cathy Mc Koy, Diane Baubinas, Sandy Kroschel, Gabriel Alvarez, Richard Karl, George Dowling, Michael Lavallatto, Mary Weinstein, Barbara Arena, Daniel Cuartas, Rita Burkley, Robert Robinson, Joe Lapomardo, Ernest Maseto, Steve Ligeikis, Mark Miller, George Bratton, Fran Newman, Dorothy Pawlus, Sara Joseph-Rager, Mike Doll, Stephen Schmitt, Shawna Johannes, Mary Burgess, David Hill, Anneri Laureano, Mike Valentine, Lisa Anderson, Mary Aucremanne, Roland Rochleau, Rosa Maria Santos, Ann Kennedy, Sue Palguta, Abe Kurtz, Fr.
