The first verse of today’s responsorial psalm represents a type of
threshold between the Christmas season, which concluded last week,
and the short period of Ordinary Time that begins today: “I have
waited, waited for the Lord, and he stooped toward me and heard my
cry,” During Advent, we waited in joyful hope for the Lord, whose
coming we celebrated for several weeks. Now we continue to
celebrate the Lord’s presence and with John the Baptist proclaim that
Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Let
today’s sacred word draw us into a deeper commitment to
discipleship.

RICA/RCIA: las clases para adultos que se preparan para entrar en la iglesia
católica son los jueves por la tarde en el centro de vida familiar de las 7:00 a las
8:30 PM en español, al salón “Juan Diego”. Los adolescentes tienen sus clases
en el salón “Juan Diego”, el tema para enero 17 será: “los sacramentos de la
madurez: Matrimonio y la ordenación”.
RCIA para niños: las clases son los jueves después del medio día y por la tarde
en enero 15.
Grupo de jóvenes Kénosis (oración, formación de fe, servicio y amistad)
domingos 2:30 PM (Juan Pablo II/centro de vida familiar), el 27 de Enero los
miembros del grupo Kénosis tendrán como invitada a Therese Frank quien tendrá
una presentación acerca de la música sagrada y la liturgia.

Adult Faith Formation
Mark your calendars! On Sunday, January 27, St. Luke will offer parishioners
a rare opportunity. Members of the 2008 Renaissance Polyphanic Retreat will
sing the beautiful Missa Ave maria stella, a Mass composed by one of the most
influential Renaissance musicians, Josquin des Pres. The Mass will be celebrated
in Latin by Fr. Ralph March, O.Cist., of Our Lady of Dallas Cisterican Abbey,
located here in Irving. This Mass will fulfill your Sunday obligation.
To complement this liturgical event, Therese Frank, director of Adult
Faith Formation, will be giving a public presentation on the topic of Sacred Music
and the Liturgy. This talk will take place during the Young Adult Kenosis meeting,
preceding the Mass. Come to ‘John Paul II’ of the Family Life Center at 2:30.
Now underway, -an exploration of the Seven Sacraments. If you would
like to deepen your understanding of the meaning of the sacraments we celebrate
so regularly, come Saturday mornings (English) or Wednesday evenings
(Spanish). See the listing below for place and time.

El domingo 27 de Enero La iglesia de San Lucas ofrecerá a sus parroquianos una
oportunidad de oro. Los miembros del taller polifónico y renacimiento cantará la
bella misa: Ave María Estrella una misa compuesta por uno de los más
reconocidos músicos del renacimiento Josquin des Pres. La misa será celebrada
en latín por el Reverendo Ralph March, O.Cist., de nuestra Señora de Dallas, la
abadía de los monjes cistercienses, localizada aquí en Irving. Esta misa podrá ser
tomada como la misa normal del domingo.
Para complementar este evento litúrgico, Therese Frank, directora de la formación
en la fe para los adultos dará una presentación con el tema de la Música Sagrada
en la liturgia. Esta plática tendrá lugar durante la junta del grupo de jóvenes
kénosis, después de la misa. Están todos invitados a participar en el salón “Juan
Pablo II del centro de vida familiar a las 2:30 de la tarde.
Ahora, en camino, una exploración de los siete sacramentos, si usted está
interesado(a) en profundizar el significado de los sacramentos, los cuales
celebramos de manera tan regular, favor de venir los sábados por la mañana
(inglés) y los miércoles por la tarde (español). Favor de ver la lista de los horarios
y los lugares para esta formación.

The Silver Seniors are serving breakfast this Sunday,
January 20 after all morning Masses. Delicious corn,
scrambled eggs, burritos, bacon, sausage, biscuits and
gravy plus coffee and orange juice are being served. Come and support the
seniors of the parish. The regular 3rd Monday at noon covered dish
meeting will be this week, Monday the 21st. All seniors belonging to the
parish are invited to bring your dish and join us in the Parish Hall. Hope to
