PAGE 3 ¡FELICIDADES SANTA TERESA EN TU DÍA! What a glorious and beautiful time to celebrate our church and our story as a people of faith. As your pastor, I feel very privileged to be with you, and to journey with you NOW in the continuation of the unfolding of God’s plan for each one of us. In my quiet moments, I have in fact tried to describe for me why our parish is so special, and why it is so easy to love this church. This is probably a good time to share some of these thoughts, so here they go: Que tiempo tan glorioso y hermoso al celebrar nuestra iglesia y nuestra historia como pueblo de fe. This is a Church where people want to have a relationship with God and the Church, to grow in devotion and prayer. Hospitality. Our Church has a welcoming spirit that makes people want to be a part of it. Diversity. Our diversity shows our attitude towards others – we do not exclude anyone. Generosity. Our Church is built and sustained by the generosity of Her faithful, not only sharing our resources, but also our time and talent. Community. We love doing things together, and it is not hard to see that we all actually like each other, we are literally a church made up of friends and family. Service. The service ministries that we do here in our 500-family parish can be compared to the much bigger parishes in our diocese. And we do these service ministries very well! Vibrancy and Growth. We still see many young families with young children in our parish, and we are actually growing in number. We have a present and a future! Poverty. Our poverty is one of our greatest strengths. It makes us trust in God, and motivates us to work hard for the sake of our community. Mentors. Our Church has learned from and grown with many amazing mentors and guides - not only the priests but also the religious nuns that worked with us through the years! LOVE OF PRIESTS. This is a Church that actually loves the priest, and I am one of the many witnesses to that! Fidelidad. Diversidad. Nuestra diversidad demuestra nuestra actitud hacia otros – no excluímos a nadie. Generosidad. My beloved Saint Teresa Church, I greet you a happy and wonderful feast day! I know that our patroness is very proud of us and is constantly praying for us, so that just like her, we may always breathe the holiness of God, as we walk hand in hand in building our holy, happy and healthy little Catholic Church in this side of Kankakee. God bless our church! In loving devotion, Fr. PAGE 5 The Nine months of The Child Jesus in the Womb of Mary The Seventh Month—September 25 to October 25 Mary and Joseph knew in advance that their baby would be a boy. And although Jesus was not his biological child, Joseph eagerly anticipated his birth. By the seventh month, the baby’s hands grip strongly. His eyelids open and close as He surveys his increasingly cramped surroundings. The baby is not 15 inches long and weighs 2-3 pounds. The infants listens intently for his recognizable voice. A child of seven months would survive birth. Four to 20 couples wait to adopt each available child. The average abortion takes 5-10 minutes. The average wait for adoption is 2-10 years. Pray for all adoptive parents who provide the loving and nourishing environment which every child deserves, and for foster parents who lend their hearts and homes to those whose fates hang in the balance. PAGE 6 ACA students celebrating the Feast of St. Teresa Cookies for the children A note from your Nurse: Whole Person Health-Learn to Play Summer is over, however you still have time to play-it will be good for you and for your children! Kids seem to know inherently just what to do to have fun, but adults may need a little help. Above all else, make sure your playtime is enjoyable and not something that feels like ‘one more thing to fit into the day.’ Playing should be simple, fun, and easy and something that’s a regular part of your routine. Try to fit some typed of play into your day, every day, and you’ll feel the difference. Need a few ideas? Try some music, going for a walk, drawing a picture, doing something you enjoyed as a kid, playing cards or a board game, singing a song, daydreaming, or writing a poem. “ You will find you feel healthier, happier and more fulfilled when you can do things that provide the kind of satisfaction you’re looking for,” says Howard Tinsley, professor of psychology at Southern Illinois University. “Over the long term, the ability to do these kinds of things leads to a greater level of physical and mental health, and to a higher quality of life.” Sept. 27/28.
