In today’s gospel Jesus warns us against the sin of greed. Greed leads us
to an unhealthy attachment to material things and to the undue concern
over accumulating wealth. It should not be confused with the legitimate
desire to acquire money and those things necessary for a comfortable
and secure life in accordance with human dignity. Working towards
acquiring the goods necessary for human happiness is not a sin; rather, it
is virtue.
A Christian should not resign himself to living in misery or to suffer
social injustice. On the contrary, in order to establish the kingdom of
God in the world we should fight against poverty and economic, cultural
and social injustice among peoples. However, in that struggle to find
God’s kingdom, His justice and His peace, we must avoid the sin of
greed, so that we will not become slaves to wealth and material things.

En el evangelio de hoy Jesús nos previene contra el pecado de la codicia. Este
pecado consiste en el apego desordenado a las cosas materiales y en la
ansiedad por acumular riquezas. La codicia no debe confundirse con el deseo
legítimo de adquirir dinero y las cosas necesarias para tener una vida decente
y segura, de acuerdo con la dignidad humana. El afán de trabajar y procurarse
los bienes necesarios para la felicidad humana no es pecado, sino virtud.
El cristiano no debe resignarse a vivir en la miseria ni a sufrir injusticias
sociales. Al contrario, para establecer el reino de Dios en el mundo debemos
luchar contra la pobreza y el subdesarrollo económico, cultural y social de los
pueblos. Pero en esa lucha por la vida, para encontrar el reino de Dios y su
justicia y su paz, debemos evitar el pecado de la codicia, de modo que no
seamos esclavos del dinero y los bienes materiales.

The Mindo Futures Mission group was in Ecuador in June. The team of 175 physicians
and volunteers for the Medical Mission as well as 50 volunteers for Miracle of Mindo have
been our parish’s hands, caring for and bringing medical assistance to more than 4,500 of
our brothers and sisters, and taking medical equipment, supplies and medication, computers,
clothing, shoes and school supplies to them. May God bless you for your hard work and for
bringing the love of Christ to them in our behalf. Thank you!!
La misión Mindo Futures efectuó su viaje anual a Ecuador en junio. El equipo de 175 médicos
y voluntarios de la Misión Médica así como 50 voluntarios de Miracle of Mindo han sido las manos
de nuestra parroquia al cuidar y brindar asistencia médica a más de 4,500 de nuestros hermanos y
hermanas, y llevándoles equipo médico, medicamentos y material, computadoras, ropa, zapatos y
útiles escolares. Que Dios bendiga sus esfuerzos por llevarles el amor de Cristo en nuestro nombre.

The Jubilee of Mercy
El Jubileo de la Misericordia
The Church feels the urgent need to proclaim God’s mercy.
Her life is authentic and credible only when she becomes a
convincing herald of mercy. She knows that her primary task,
especially at a moment full of great hopes and signs of
contradiction, is to introduce everyone to the great mystery of God’s mercy
by contemplating the face of Christ…
In this Jubilee Year, may the Church echo the word of God that resounds
strong and clear as a message and a sign of pardon, strength, aid, and love.
May she never tire of extending mercy, and be ever patient in offering
compassion and comfort. May the Church become the voice of every man and
woman, and repeat confidently without end: “Be mindful of your mercy, O
Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old” (Ps 25:6).

La Iglesia siente la urgencia de anunciar la misericordia de Dios. Su vida es auténtica

August 4, St. John Vianney, known as the "Cure of
Ars,” he was ordained a priest in 1815 and three years
later he was made parish priest of Ars, a remote French
hamlet, where his reputation as a confessor and
director of souls made him known throughout the
Christian world. He heard confessions for 16 hours a
day and is the patron of parish priests.
Agosto 4, San Juan Vianney, conocido como el “Cura de
Ars”, fue ordenado sacerdote en 1815 y enviado a la remota
parroquia de Ars en Francia, donde su reputación como
confesor y director de almas lo hizo conocido en todo el
mundo cristiano. Dedicaba 16 horas al día a oir confesiones.
Es el patrono de los sacerdotes.

Registration for RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a course of
study introducing adults 18 and over to the Catholic faith and way of life, will
start August 14. We request that those registering bring their baptismal
certificate if they have been baptized, and marriage certificates if ever married.

“This attention to the works of mercy is important; it is not a devotion. It is the reality of
how Christians should carry forward the spirit of mercy,” teaches the Pope. Following are
some ideas of how to do it. But remember, these are only suggestions. Let your imagination
