LIFE COMES FROM GOD!
Last Sunday, our Holy Father Pope Francis celebrated
the concluding Rites of the Mass for the conclusion of the
World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.
It is not
coincident, and this week we celebrate the Respect Life
Sunday. It is very important for us to be reminded of the
Church’s teaching on Marriage and Life. The very first chapter
of the Bible says, “God created mankind in his image; in the
image of God he created them; male and female he created
them. God blessed them and God said to them: Be fertile and
multiply; fill the earth and subdue it” (Genesis 1:27-28). This
is the core of the Church’s understanding and teachings on
Marriage and Life. Indeed, life comes from God. God created
male and female for His purpose. This purpose is to fill the
earth with life. We fill the earth with life through marriage
between a man and a woman. And the image of God continues
to exist in every human being.
Therefore, to prevent life through contraception is
against God’s intention. Likewise, to do abortion or support
abortion is to destroy life and the images of God in the world.
Indeed, life is sacred. God always provide enough spaces and
resources here on earth as well as in heaven for every one of
us. As in the Gospel of John, Jesus says, “In my Father’s
house, there are many dwelling places” (John 14:2). And
especially in the Gospel’s reading today we hear Jesus tells us
that “Let the children come to me, do not prevent them.”
So my dear brothers and sisters do you know: one of
the most difficult parts of the duty of a priest is trying to teach
people to uphold the teachings of the Church on marriage.
Especially in our society today, the attitude of some Catholics
toward marriage, divorce, sex outside of marriage and same
sex marriage is not for the most part shaped or formed by what
Jesus is teaching us. It’s pretty much formed by the secular
culture, or the culture of death.
Some Catholics are questioning the Church like: why
does the Church have all these rules? Why doesn’t the Church
allow divorce and remarried or allow contraception? Isn’t it
looks like the Church is trying to make it hard for people to
stay in the Church? Actually, the Church is not making it
harder for people. It’s the human hearts that are becoming
more hardening toward God and God’s teachings. The
Church’s mission is to continue Jesus’ work of saving the
world. And we are as Catholics, called and challenged to
influence the world and transform the world by our faithfulness
to God our creator.
¡LA VIDA VIENE DE DIOS!
El domingo pasado, el Santo Padre Francisco
celebró los ritos finales de la Misa para la celebración del
Encuentro Mundial de las Familias en Filadelfia. No es
coincidencia, y esta semana celebramos el Domingo de
Respeto por la Vida. Es muy importante para nosotros
recordar las enseñanzas de la Iglesia sobre el matrimonio y la
vida. El primer capítulo de la Biblia dice: "Dios creó a la
humanidad a su imagen; a imagen de Dios lo creó; varón y
hembra los creó. Dios los bendijo y Dios les dijo: Sed
fecundos y multiplicaos; llenad la tierra y sometedla" (Génesis
1: 27-28). Este es el núcleo de la comprensión de la Iglesia y
sus enseñanzas sobre el Matrimonio y la Vida. De hecho, la
vida viene de Dios. Dios creó varón y hembra para Su
propósito. Este propósito es llenar la tierra con vida.
Llenamos la tierra con la vida a través del matrimonio entre un
hombre y una mujer. Y la imagen de Dios continúa existiendo
en cada ser humano.
Por lo tanto, para evitar la vida a través de la
anticoncepción está en contra de la intención de Dios. Del
mismo modo, el hacerse un aborto o apoyar el aborto es
destruir la vida y la imagen de Dios en el mundo. De hecho, la
vida es sagrada. Dios siempre proporciona suficiente espacios
y recursos aquí en la tierra como en el cielo para cada uno de
nosotros. Al igual que en el Evangelio de Juan, Jesús dice:
"En la casa de mi Padre hay muchas moradas" (Juan 14: 2). Y
especialmente en la lectura del Evangelio de hoy, escuchamos
a Jesús nos dice que "Dejad que los niños vengan a mí, no los
prevengan."
Así que mis queridos hermanos y hermanas
¿saben?, una de las partes más difíciles del deber de un
sacerdote es tratar de enseñarle a la gente como defender las
enseñanzas de la Iglesia sobre el matrimonio. Especialmente
en nuestra sociedad hoy en día, la actitud de algunos católicos
hacia el matrimonio, el divorcio, el sexo fuera del matrimonio
y el matrimonio del mismo sexo no es en su mayoría
conformada o formada por lo que Jesús nos está enseñando.
Es más o menos formada por la cultura secular, o la cultura de
la muerte.
Algunos católicos están cuestionando la Iglesia como:
¿por qué la Iglesia tiene todas estas reglas? ¿Por qué la
Iglesia no permite el divorcio y segundas nupcias, o permite la
anticoncepción? ¿No parece que la Iglesia está tratando de
hacer difícil para las personas el permanecer en la Iglesia?
En realidad, la Iglesia no está haciendo nada más difícil para
las personas. Son los corazones humanos que se están
volviendo más endurecidos hacia las enseñanzas de Dios. La
misión de la Iglesia es continuar el trabajo de Jesús de salvar
al mundo. Y nosotros somos como Católicos, somos llamados
y desafiados a influir en el mundo y transformarlo para Dios
nuestro Creador.
