The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows: September 15 The title “Our Lady of Sorrows” focuses on our Blessed Mother’s intense suffering and grief during the passion and death of our Lord. Traditionally, this suffering is comprised of the seven sorrows of Mary which were foretold by the Priest Simeon. The seven sorrows of Mary are: 1. The Prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:25-35) 2. The Flight into Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15) 3. Loss of the Child Jesus for 3 Days (Luke 2:41-50) 4. Mary Meets Jesus on his Way to Calvary (Luke 23:27-31; John 19:17) 5. Crucifixion and Death of Jesus (John 19:25-30) 6. The Body of Jesus Being Taken from the Cross (Psalm 130; Luke 23:50-54) 7. The Burial of Jesus (Isaiah 53:8; Luke 23:50-56; John 19:38-42; Mark 15:40-47) : Readings for the Week of September 11 Stephen’s Ministry Meet & Greet Stephen Ministers offer highquality, one-to-one care to people going through tough times such as job loss, divorce, illness, relocation or other life transitions. New Music Director (From the Front Page) opportunity to use my talents in the greatest way possible: putting them at the service of the Church and developing them in ways that would not have been possible otherwise. In 2014, during my second year of theology, just two years before ordination, I began to realize that I was not called to religious life, and after many difficult months of discernment, I made the decision to leave the seminary and seek God’s will for me elsewhere. I was offered a position to teach middle school Spanish, religion and music at Pinecrest Academy, where I met my future wife, Kelly, the art and literature teacher down the hall. Since my background in philosophy and theology did not fulfill the prerequisites for Georgia teacher certification, I was looking into other career options when the opportunity to serve at St. Brendan’s opened up, and now I have the chance to put my musical gifts to the service of the Church full-time. I have enjoyed a very warm reception at St. Brendan’s, and I have found that many people share my desire to build a solid and dynamic musical tradition. I invite as many people as possible to share their talents with the parish, and I look forward to working and worshipping with you!” September 12-18 Capital Campaign Current Month Contributions: $62,652.00 Electronic giving for the Month: Total Capital Campaign Contributions: $62,652.00 Savings Fund Balance as of 7/30/2016 $1,541,899.00 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal Update 2016 Goal $140,700.00 Outstanding Pledges $87,862.00 Payments to date $123,374.00 La Respuesta Martes 20 de Septiembre, 2016 6:30pm—8:30pm Salón Social Para todas las mujeres de la parroquia y sus amigas: las invitamos a nuestra reunion mensual de la Respuesta.
