TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and
Joseph Imagine: three New Year's celebrations in
little over a month! In late November, Advent began the new liturgical year; December 8, the Jubilee
Year of Mercy; this coming Friday, the New Year
2016. In today's Gospel, after three days of anguish,
Mary tells Jesus how desperately she and Joseph
have been searching for him. Mary could be speaking for the whole human race. With religious persecutions raging, international and domestic conflicts
seething, our family and friends suffering various
difficulties, not to mention our own personal problems, how much our world needs Jesus as another
New Year veiled in mystery begins! As we pray for
God's mercy to enfold our world and embrace each
of us in 2016, let our New Year's resolution be to
live the Jubilee Year of Mercy by being for others,
as Mary was, a channel of God's mercy and an
instrument of Christ's peace.

El primer domingo después de
la Navidad celebramos la fiesta
de la Sagrada Familia. Los latinos somos un pueblo muy unido en familia. Para nosotros es
más que un pequeño grupo compuesto de padre,
madre, hijos e hijas. La familia para nosotros los
latinos es un conjunto grande de abuelos, abuelas,
tíos, tías, primos, primas, compadres, comadres,
suegros, suegras y otros más además del padre, la
madre y los hijos. Para los latinos una fiesta que
celebra la familia de Jesús es la cosa más natural
del mundo.
Extrañamente esta fiesta no es muy antigua. En
realidad es una celebración que data de comienzos
de la época moderna en el siglo XVII. Antes de
estas fechas la familia de Jesús casi siempre era
entendida como compuesta por Jesús, María y
Ana (la madre de María). Se daba por hecho que
José estaba por allí. Pero en el siglo XVII muchos
perdieron sus padres pues tenían que ir a las fábricas a trabajar. Por eso el magisterio instituyó la
conmemoración de la Sagrada Familia de Jesús,
María y José para recordar a los padres cristianos
su deber ante sus hijos y su esposa.

“TUESDAYS’ TALK SHOW”
In the spirit of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, our Parish Evangelization Team invites everyone to join
us in a series of “Talk Show” about different topics relating to mercy and compassion as outlined
by the Holy Father, Pope Francis I. The meetings
will be hands on with subject matters relating to
all. These evenings will happen every 4th Tuesday
of the month, beginning January 2016 in the Ministry Center at 7:00 PM. Stay tuned for more
information regarding this matter.

Take a time out to communicate
Sometimes, kids need a place to go where they can
say what they want, and they won’t be immediately
punished or have to deal with a negative reaction.
It’s important to make sure your child has such a
space or time – after dinner conversations, an ice
cream spot, riding home from school – where they
can tell you what’s on their mind, good or bad, and
you can just listen and discuss, without taking the
instant parental approach. If your children feel safe
talking to you openly, you are better equipped to
notice and handle any red flags in their lives. For a
