Saint Canera, patroness of Irish Sailors, is sitting in a boat with an
oil lamp, the symbol of wisdom and virginity, with a monastery on
an island in the background where she sought spiritual rest. She
was refused entrance to the island but was given Eucharist just

MISSION STATEMENT
The parish family of St. Canera sees as its mission to
work together and in the larger community to know,
love, and serve God. Based on Scripture, the sacraments, and our Roman Catholic tradition, we seek to
recognize our dependence on God, grow spiritually,
become images of Christ, educate adults and assist in
educating children, and as God’s instruments, share our
faith with and welcome others.
Primera Lectura: Job 7, 1-4. 6-7
Salmo Responsorial: Salmo 146, 1-2. 3-4. 5-6
Segunda Lectura: 1 Corintios 9, 16-19. 22-23
Evangelio: Marcos 1, 29-39
LECTURAS DEL PROXIMO DOMINGO
Primera Lectura: Levítico 13, 1-2. 44-46
Salmo Responsorial: Salmo 31, 1-2. 5. 11
Segunda Lectura: 1 Corintios 10, 31—11,1
Evangelio: Marcos 1, 40-45
orar debido a nuestras apretadas agendas.

camino pecaminoso y poder acercarnos a nuestro Señor.
Cuaresma. Si tú has estado considerando y dudando hacer
Iglesia.
Comienza el miércoles, 25 de febrero (6:30 PM a 7:30 PM)

“The Light Is On for You” is a diocesan initiative to
allow all Catholics to avail themselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Confession is a wonderful
opportunity to set aside our sinful ways and to draw
closer to our Lord.
Each Catholic parish in the Diocese of SpringfieldCape Girardeau has been asked to have confessions
available every Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM
during this Lenten season. If you have been reluctant
to come to the sacrament, have been away for some
time, or just find it difficult to get to a Saturday afternoon confession time, this is a wonderful opportunity
to reconnect with Christ and his Church.
Starts Wednesday, February 25 (6:30 PM to 7:30 PM)
Coffee and donuts will be served
after the 8 AM Mass.
Note from the Knights of Columbus . . .

Gospel: Mark 1:40-45
My dear sisters and brothers,
As many of you know, during Ordinary Time the
Old Testament reading has been chosen in light of the
Gospel choice in the Lectionary. This week’s First
Reading and the Gospel is an interesting pairing. Job
reflects on the drudgery of life. He does this after he
has suffered and had just about everything dear to
him taken away from him. The Book of Job calls us
to be faithful in the midst of whatever suffering comes our way.
The Gospel, on the other hand, depicts a Jesus, who is “on a mission
from God,” like the Blues Brothers. Even in the midst of his busy-ness,
Jesus carries on, strengthened by the prayer time he spends with his
Father, so that he can continue his endless task of being present to others.
There’s a lesson here for all of us. So often we don’t seem to find
the time to pray because of our busy schedules. It is only when we
MAKE the time for prayer, that our lives feel a little less harried. Prayer
can help us to focus on the fact that God is at the center of our lives, the
God who gives us hope, the God who urges us and encourages us forward.
As Lent approaches, I would suggest that at least part of our Lenten
practice might be to spend a bit more time in prayer each day. I would
be willing to bet that by the end of Lent, you will be able to approach
your endless daily activities with a bit more energy and enthusiasm,
knowing that the Lord is indeed at your side.
With fond affection,
Fr. Hank
